That's actually quite a reasonable budget considering it's a Disney movie. They always seem to over budget their movies.

It would have been $250m if Bruckheimer had anything to do with it... ;)

It would be epic if Tron flopped. Disney will be so mindnumbingly fucked it'd be hilarious.

I still want to see the movie, but really, reading that article makes me want to vomit.

Everything must be a multiplatform seller? No wonder Disney are full of shit. Only one of the big six not to have won an Oscar either; not surprising in the least of course.

Also merchandising over quality? Well, not yet of course, but if Tron sucks, Disney are really fucking stupid. Who wants to own merchandise from a lousy movie? As usual, Disney are brainless.

And the funniest thing about that is that Pixar will probably win one for them before they actually win one for a movie they've done in-house.

150m for Tron is good. Given that it is being heavily marketed in OS markets (atleast here), it should easily be making money for the studios, for this number anyways. After including the marketing budget I would assume that the budget would be around 300m-350m, which would mean that it would have to cross atleast 500m-550m WW to break even.

15+12+10+3 = 40 so 10 for Brooks?

Owen Wilson isn't worth 5 much less 10.

Expected for Narnia and Tourist but Damn bad for HDYK, I thought it would be around 70m-80m with the stars but this too much of a gamble from the studios. This would require about 250m to break even

Excellent numbers for Fighter and True Grit.

True Grit with wide release is sure to make $50m at the minimum.

Fighter with an excellent limited release and going ahead a good mainstream appeal should do more than its budget.

I bet big paychecks on Fockers as well....though I am sure it will make its money.

True Grit increased from the previous number but still looking good. Should be passing that figure in a week.

True Grit will def. be profitable. I see it doing 200m+ WW.

How do you figure it'll make that much? Westerns don't have a very good track record outside of the US...

Open Range made 85.4% of its total gross in the US.
3:10 to Yuma: 76.6%
The Missing: 70.2%
Appaloosa 73.1%
Jonah Hex 96.7%

To be fair, the Westerns that recently won Oscars for Best Picture/Director have fared better...
Dances with Wolves 43% 'domestically
Unforgiven 63.6% domestic
Brokeback Mountain 46.6% domestically

Unadjusted for inflation, the only Westerns to ever crack 200 million worldwide were Dances with Wolves and Back to the Future: Part III.

So... True Grit will need to make at least 110 million in the US and rally at the Oscars to make 200 million WW. I think it's being very overpredicted on here... But I'd love to be wrong!

I have a hard time accepting BTTF3 and JONAH HEX as westerns. They're really science-fiction and comic-book films (respectively) in a western setting. There's a distinct difference between that and a traditional western, IMHO.

LITTLE FOCKERS:

Three people close to the film said its budget was between $130 million and $140 million, though a spokeswoman for domestic distributor Universal said the final cost was about $100 million.

As expected this is going to be a big bomb for Fox. Hopefully overseas total will atleast help them recover half of what they invested in this.

Terribly huge budget for Witch. Maybe it has decent special effects then.

I think 40m is still a decent number. The only thing is that the marketing cost which I think would have been big. It needs to make about 150m WW to recover money for studios.
