Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
By my count, 27 theaters in the bay area have online sales through Fandango or AMC, and there are 117 midnight (or after) shows currently scheduled; 81 of them are sold out. Still got 5 hours to go and more shows to add.

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
Well the only solid proof is that it has 1 million dollars worth or pre-sales from in Canada from one cinema chain and that was reported early in the morning.
That just shows you how huge the film will be.

My theater that has never done more than 3 midnight showings that i know of has 4 solt out. The other theater had 6 sold out yesterday and I'm guessing it just can't add more or it would have.

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
My Marcus theater sold out all 3 of their midnight shows sometime before 5:30 this evening (2 were sold out by last night). My Regal 16 theater has sold out 7 of their 8 showing tonight, as well as 2 morning shows tomorrow and a night show tomorrow. The 7th sellout tonight sold late in about 15 minutes. This is frickin crazy. I've never seen anything like this, even Sith. I'm not waiting around to see how long it takes to sell out the last showing though. I'm going to get in line before I get stuck with a crap seat. Report to come around 3:30 am

The theater I usually go to had four sell-outs for Sith's midnight opening (it's a small, 10-screen theater).
The Dark Knight? Six.

That was at 7pm ET... Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King are perfect examples of how big a summer release matters when it comes to midnights/opening day. HP4 made 6M from midnights, and I don't know what ROTK made, but it wasn't more than 9 that's for sure, I'm thinking maybe 6/7 or so. The point is, the films below them on that list (SM3, HP5, Pirates) didn't have as many pre-sales but crused them in midnights and opening day.

There was about 60 sellouts in the detroit area that I counted for HP5, for TDK I am counting 102, from movietickets.com. This is Sith territory.

2 midnight showings are sold out at the Carlisle Commons Stadium 8 (my local 8-screen theater that rarely ever sells out). 3 out of 4 midnight showings are sold out at the Harrisburg Regal. 6 out of 8 midnight showings are sold out at the Lancaster Regal Manor Stadium 16. Insaaaaane for my area.

ALONE. Then consider that there are over 90 more IMAX screens showing in roughly the same amount of seats (440), with roughly the same price ($14.50, averaging out the likely amount of adults vs. kids), and roughly a similar schedule. Now, obviously it won't sell out every screening, but if it averages even 70% capacity per show nationwide with those same seat numbers and ticket prices in about 90 theaters...that's $10 million. From IMAX alone. Wha? ETA: Oh, and now the entire weekend is officially sold out, along with all of Monday.
