Violence, action, ass-kicking, cool visual style and Jessica Alba. I'll be there opening weekend if it gets an R16 rating (in New Zealand), but I guess I'll wait for the DVD if its R18 cause I'm too young, and last time I beat up the dude who checks the IDs at the movies I got jumped on by the 183 people it took to bring me down (and even then I just let them win 'cause I felt sorry for them) and I don't want to waste 6 hours of so many people's lives. I actually hope it is R18 cause that means none of that "shying away from blood, swearing, guns, boobs and gore" pansy-shit.
Prediction:
Opening Weekend $126m (anyone who can get in but doesn't go clearly doesn't have a pair)
Total Gross $940m (because you, the non-opening-weekend-Sin City-goer, will realise that everyone is laughing at you behind your back because they KNOW that you haven't seen it yet and are an asshole, thus driving you to see it as soon as you can, or else driving you to suicide if you have emotional problems - in which case you don't deserve to see a film this cool, loser).

Im 110% sure it will be R though, from what I hear the graphic novels are pretty damn violent, hell theres a guy who eats women ( Elijah Wood's character ) I would not see the film if it were PG-13 also, having a PG-13 rating for a film like this would be destruction most of the fans would be pissed, and it would turn off the movie goers just like sky captains rating killed sky captain. Frank Miller already said this will be the most loyal adaption of a comic/graphics novel people have seen yet and that has to mean a kickass hard R rated movie.

This is just the coolest thing. I never imagined that I would have something that I wrote on the same news page as a Frank Miller interview!

Exactly it was in the summer. That provided better weekdays and therefore, a stronger multiplier.

Furthermore, the audience seems likely to be made up of the type of people to know exactly when a film is opening rather then more casual moviegoers. Just look around here, most want to see it even though it is not a blockbuster. But, as i mentioned in the analysis, it's got nothing in it's way. It the only thing playing for that demographic, unless you think Sahara is going to pull audiences away. Fever Pitch is a romcom, so it won't really hurt it. It's got a clear piece of the pie, until Amityville Horror comes out 2 weeks after it's release. Do you really think it's going to cut off that fast, barring bad WOM?
Sin City's audience does overlap with Sahara's a bit. But in any case, I believe WOM and competition to be overrated when it comes to second week drops. Look at Resident Evil 2; It didn't have competition in the second weekend (Sky Captain attracted an entirely different audience) and it had strong WOM, yet it dropped about 60%. Constantine is another example.

Read " The Hard Goodbye " last night, it was great. What I love about this movie is how theres 3 seperate stories, so their probably gonna be around 40min long and what that means is that people wont get bored. I wonder how they'll pull of the preist scene, people might be complaining

Just a quick mention for those interested. The priest is played by creator/co-director/ comic's legend , Frank Miller, pictured above.

Well, sure, but considering that happens with pretty much every movie, how do you think that's going to help its box office?

Speaking of the box office, what is your take on this? Some of us may be biased fanboys, and could use an objective POV.

I don't know, I'd guess something like the Kill Bill movies, maybe a little less.

Yep, sounds about right, unless it catches a wave like the first Matrix did, and is embraced as an "it" movie by teens.

Regarding its rating I see it being R or very close to it, and some getting surprised that its only pg-13 (ala Hellboy, Daredevil, AVP)

First review from "Parker'
http://chud.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75210
Quote: Just got back from an advanced screening.
An absolute fucking mess.
Before you all ask...yes, I've read all three of the graphic novels covered here...plus the other Dwight story, A Dame to Kill For (which I think is a helluva lot better than The Big Fat Kill, personally). I like the graphic novels...some more than others (they never got better than the original Sin City...which I guess I should call The Hard Goodbye now) but they all had their goofy noir charm and striking images. Miller's writing can sometimes get quite overcooked (espeshilly the narrative sections). But in graphic novel form, the words and images sit together well as an enjoyable if somewhat empty dark consistancy. Quote: Look, I expect a lot of positive reaction will come out of this because I think people will get caught up in the look and the faithful adaptation. But there will be negative reviews. And I'm guessing they'll be coming from thoughtful sources.
