I'm happy about all the great reviews Reese is getting from this film. I've always considered her to be an amazingly talented actress, ever since seeing Freeway. But her bimbo roles in mainstream comedies seemingly have blinded a lot of people to her raw, exceptional talent.
Great that she is having her comeback in artistical sense.

I think now Mav will dislike Lee's even more.
The Beyond the Sea comparison is laughable by all accounts, though.

Lee gave The Constant Gardener and other noteworthy films negative reviews, I find it hard to take him seriously.

Both reviewers there seemed to dislike the movie. Interesting that Lee thought Witherspoon outshone Phoenix though. That certainly is one constant in all the reviews I've read.

Lee's gave Saw II and The 40-Year-Old Virgin C's, so I'll never trust them, heh.
Infact, they give everything they see in advance a C.

Haha, he gave Deuce Bigalow 2 a B-. Therefore Walk the Line is worse than Deuce Bigalow 2.
Walk the Line is still an Oscar contender.
Logically, Deuce Bigalow 2 will be the frontrunner in this year's race. Wait and see Rob Schneider picking up the trophy.

Hey, Lecter, I never did see any comments from you concerning the 21 million opening that Walk the Line is currently tracking at?

Actually he gave 40YOV a B, I think.

Ray opened to $20 million as well.
I do not see it opening that big, though. But even then, still no $100 million here.

uh...no. All that means is that Lee is an idiot, so if his awful predictions weren't enough to convince you, him considering Deuce Bigalow 2 to be the best film of the year should be.

Ah...again with the Ray comparisons, as you completely shy away from the more accurate Coal Miner's Daughter comparison...

Well, if you think that country is so much more popular, why wouldn't it open to more than $21 million?

Because Ray wasn't opening alongside a Harry Potter film.

Let's say it wouldn't be opening against a HP film, but the weekend before (or any other similar weekend). What do you think could it have opened to?

That is very unlikely. Highly unlikely even.
The majority of Line's audience that Harry Potter is potentially going to take away isn't even the type of audience that would nevessatiry flock to see Walk the Line opening weekend.
If there were no major openers on the Walk the Line weekend (and in that case it wouldn't be scheduled on the weekend it is, because that's just not reality) it could open up to $24-26 million max.
That being said...
I think Walk the Line has a good chance of crossing the century mark, but I'm not sold yet.
However, the ads, tv spots, and posters have been looking quite good; actually pretty fucking amazing. I saw two commercials for it Sunday night (2 completely different ones, one of them was the "will you marry me" one) and my anticipation rose ten-fold.
Thanksgiving will no doubt help it but the $100m really depends on its Oscar ride. If December rolls around and we still don't have a clear leader and Walk the Line is making it on mostly all of the predictions then it will pass $100m and quite possibly get up to $120-130m by the end up of its run!
So, it all depends on if it fades by December's end or if it's still chugging through December and into January.

I really don't understand the conclusion for dollar values that you are drawing, Raffi. I'll just go with mine, as they make much more sense.

I saw my first tv spot for it. I know you'll call me out on this for 'not being legit', but I didn't like it. They mentioned no actors, no praises, and barely showed Reese Witherspoon. It just showed a bunch of shots of Cash/Phoenix, a scene in the jail, and said a few lines about the man in black. Then the title-line flashed on in big bold letters then disappeared in a surprisingly thriller-esque fashion. Then it ended. Odd.
*waits for a Maverikk bitch*

Im joining the 100 million dollar club, which I suppose means it wont make 100 million dollars. Muahahahahaha!
But really, bio-pics dont really interest me much, but the commercials for this one are pretty damn good in my opinion.
