Re: The Avatar(Avatanic) Prediction | Tracking Thread
That's funny. 2 weeks ago I bought tickets to see Avatar in IMAX tomorrow. It wasn't easy. You have to be in front of the computer waiting for the moment they make reservations available online for that day. Then, you select the seats of your choice, it is like booking a flight! If you miss it, you have to seat in the front row or in the lateral side.

Because last weekend had 6-7 hours straight of championship football - with almost 60 million viewers, causing big time drops. Avatar fell 40% last Sunday. This weekend Sundays number will be down a bit or flat with last Sunday because of no football.

Yeah but it won't be down (probably) by only 20% compared to saturday. Films drop more than that on sunday.

Re: The Avatar(Avatanic) Prediction | Tracking Thread
Theater Monitoring Report for Avatar 1/30/10
All AMC Theaters
3D screens unless noted, sellouts on right 1st # 1/23/10, 2nd # 1/30/10
Tysons Corner
14 Showings-8/0
Hoffman 22
8 Showings-5/0 IMAX 3D 4 Showings-3/3
Hampton 24
7 Showings-0 IMAX 3D 4 showings-0 2D 3 Showings-dropped
Potomac Mills 18
8 Showings-5/0 IMAX 3D 4 showings-3/0
Mazza Gallerie 8
4 Showings-0/0
Columbia 14
8 Showings-5/0
IMAX 3D 5 showings-4/3
Security Square 8
4 2D showings-0/0
Lynnhaven 18
5? Showings-0/1(2) IMAX 3D 3? showings-0/0(1)
I am assuming no more sellouts at this point. I will update any changes.
Hampton dropped 2D screen and 3 showings. Lynnhaven dropped 2 showings 3D and 1 IMAX due to weather. The theater closed early with no showings for any movie after 7:30 at a minimum and perhaps as early as 5:00. Lynnhaven definitely had at least one sell-out, but I am not sure if it had 3 due to the fact they were taking the showings off for all films around 4:30-5:00. Movies like Alvin and other films I know did not sell out were registering as sellouts for the 5-7 period.
Overall, 6 (8) sellouts compared to 33 last week and a loss of 6 showings. Snow had a major impact and it is impossible to extrapolate much from my local area.
I would estimate $12.75m for Saturday with a range between $13.0-12.5m. A relatively small Saturday increase (compared to previous Sats.) more likely and a 20-25% weekly drop. I must reiterate that my theater sample may not be a good match due to the fact of the snow storm. I should probably go much lower, but this storm affected less than 10% of the US population, so I don't think it will impact Avatar too badly nationwide.
