Meh, looks like it's still on track to top HP5.

Hmm..., awesome hold on its 5th weekend for HP5...

Thanks for the numbers, btw.

That's a foregone conclusion, what's intriguing now is whether it can top HP1...i think it can but we'll see.

Heh, yeah. I figured this talk of $700m being a lock was rather premature. It's just the same case as it was with the domestic side. The massive opening is just a sign of the increasingly frontloaded nature of the franchise, not of an expansion in the fanbase.

$700m is still not out of the question...Ice Age 3 after all had 2 solid weekends of drops and will now scream past $500m. Anything can happen.

Not out of the question, but far from a lock, and ROTK is certainly out of reach now. ;)

Yeah, i'm not unhappy about that LOL :funny:

Though ROTK's WW gross was never in play, it was the international gross that was shaky.

This weekend’s estimated gross of $84.4m in 64 markets included the highest Potter opening in Poland ($2m), a new Warner record in Argentina of $1.9m, and the UK adding $8.3m for a new cume of $53.3m, making Potter the top film of 2009 in the Hogwarts-home territory.

AUSTRALIA (AUD$) - Weekend 2

1 2 HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE (M), WARNER BROS [510/ $12,672] 6,462,870 -55% 29,642,267
2 4 ICE AGE 3: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS (PG), FOX [366/ $5,609] 2,052,977 -35% 27,494,889
3 5 TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN (M), PARAMOUNT [304/ $3,805] 1,156,695 -32% 38,703,667
4 1 DRAG ME TO HELL (MA15+), ROADSHOW [139/ $7,574] 1,052,821 N/A 1,062,432
5 3 BRUNO (MA15+), UNIVERSAL [265/ $3,821] 1,012,644 -50% 12,962,321

Pretty good hold if you ask me, it dropped even better than HP5 despite a record breaking opening. It's total is already very close to $30m and is the largest movie after Weekend 2. At this rate, it's easily going to blast past $40m and should challenge HP1 to become the #1 movie of the franchise in Australia, staggering really. HP1 topped out at at around $42-43m. If HP6, continues at this pace, it's looking at a LOTR-type gross around the $45m mark. There's nothing out for the next a couple of weeks so it could easily happen.

Ice Age 3 doing quite well as well, excellent hold and looks to top out at around $35m...whreas Transformers 2 had an even better hold (it's best yet) and will pass $40m to be around $41-42m.

It's been a great year so far for AUS BO.

Harry Potter 6: HBP - $29,642,267 ($6,462,870, -55%)

There's been some very big movies this year, unfortunately, there's nothing in the $20m region....all other big movies this year have fallen around the $15-20m mark.

So 443m heading into it's third weekend. HP5 was at 454m AFTER it's third weekend, and 696m WW. HP6 will be at 680m heading into the weekend.

HP5 had china/turkey/egypt/greece to open after its 3rd weekend. HP6 just has greece. Plus HP5 opened in japan week after domestic and so it had more juice left after its 3rd weekend. I think HP6 is on a trajectory towards HP5 total. It needs much better legs than what it has shown so far to beat HP5 total.

WHEN PARENTS TAKE THEIR CHILDREN TO THE MOVIES THEY SHOULDN’T LET THEIR KIDS DECIDE THE MOVIE…THEY KNOW NOTHING. THEY THINK GUINEA PIGS TAKING OVER THE WORLD IF FUNNY? HOW?? EXPLAIN THAT TO ME?? WHAT IF BIN LADEN TOOK OVER THE WORLD? WOULD THAT BE FUNNY? NO. BUT WAIT…IT’S OK IF IT’S A GUINEA PIG, THAT’S NOT SCARY, LET’S BLOW 25 DOLLARS ON THE GUINEA PIGS AND FUCKING 50 MORE ON POPCORN. GARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! But whatever, everybody knows HP is the best and it’ll probably make more money than GFORCE in the long run…and Gforce won\t get any oscar noms like HP. But you guys I am seriously scared for HP. When I went to see HBP with my friend Amber on Monday (Brian couldn’t make it…I think I told you about him…Whatever) there was hardly anyone in the theatre…like maybe 40 people. If people aren’t going to see this again because they cut out the funeral than HBP probably won’t beat PoA which is the lowest grosser by a ton…we can't let that happen guys!!! PoA was offensive to so many people and though I liked it, I think it should remain the lowest grosser...what do you guys think??

I'm glad you agree with my zingy...HBP's box office gross is just outrageous. I think they might re-release this movie to get it over 300M...5 HP films in a row that fail to top 300M doesn't look too good after all. If only JK could tell the purists to go see the movie. Does anybody know where i could contact her?
