I was talking Golden Globes. Joel Schumacher directed The Phantom of the Opera and even that was nominated for Best Musical/Comedy. Ruling it out would be foolish.
Also, maybe the HFPA will be wiser this year than the last a nominate Walk the Line in the drama category where Ray belonged as well.

You are splitting hairs. We all knew Phantom of the Opera would be nominated last year, but we all knew that Sideways or Ray would win. Are you just purposely being difficult today? Doubtful.

You are certainly purposely going on my nerves today, though.
Have you seen Rent?

I don't think we should count out the Comedy of Musical/Comedy just yet either. If Family Stone is absolutely fantastic, or if in a shocking decision they honor Wedding Crashers...

FWIW: Ebert on Walk the Line
While at the Hawaii International Film Festival last night, before the showing of U-Carmen, Roger Ebert had a couple interesting things to say about Walk the Line. Most interestingly, he explained how he knows the songs used in the movie inside and out, and, even after listening with his eyes closed at points, he was positive he was hearing Johnny Cash, but, of course, the credits rolled and the vocals are credited to Joaquin. He also gave high praise for Reese Witherspoon's work in the film.

Frankly, I can't even believe this topic is still up for debate.

I just assumed this is now the Walk the Line prediction thread as opposed to make 100 million thread. Just needs a subject heading adjustment ;-{D

Oh sorry Wily, I hope you didn't take me seriously. I hadn't even looked closely. I just trounce on into this thread on occassion and demand everyone nervously anticipate this film as much as I and "predict" via coersion that it'll make 100 million.
I'm pretty sure its common knowledge at this point to just completely ignore me whenever Walk the line gets mentioned anywhere on the boards.

A mixed reaction from Jarhead would significantly improve Walk the Line's chances in the Oscars.
There is still time to join!

There are some clips from the film over at MTV. In the first clip, Reese is dynamite.

On November 16th, CBS will be airing a tribute concert to Johnny Cash. Reese and Joaquin are there, but I'm not sure if they do any singing.

The reviews seem to allow applaud the chemistry between Phoenix and Witherspoon, as well as how well done of a love story it is. Are there any other love stories coming down the pike? Are any of the of comparable quality to this soon to be multiple Oscar nominated film? A few weeks are still left to join, and I'd like to get at least 20 members before it opens.

A couple notes:
-The HSX prices for Walk the Line are currently in the $34 range, and were at $28 just a few days ago. All and all this doesn't prove that much, but it shows the HSX consenseous aren't exactly on the big hit side. Being at $28 with only a few weeks until go-time is pretty low for a soon to be 100 mil grosser. In comparison, Munich and Memoirs are coming out a month after Line, and are currently in the $60+ range.
-Is it just me, or has there been absolutely no marketing or tv spots or talk about this? I haven't seen it attached to any movies, I haven't seen anything on TV, and nobody I've talked to knows its coming out. I've seen a poster in my movie theatre, but thats it. Its coming out in a couple weeks, you'd think for the 'Peoples Choice' there'd be a bit more.
EDIT-Line is at $35 and Munich/Memoirs are $58 and $59. Line is rising, but its still terribly low.

Does anybody else notice how Shack follows me around being argumentative, and then whines when he gets the argument he was looking for?
Shack, I've never seen a prediction of yours or an argument of yours amount to being on the winning side, such as your embarrassing Doom debacle. You have to build some credibility, and it starts by being right at least once, but seriously, it takes more than once and a show of some consistancy.

I'm not. even. arguing.
I was pointing out a few notes or facts, that had nothing to do with you. For the record, I'm not that bad at this. I called Corpse Bride's expectations to spike when all predictions were in the 8 mil range. And I called North Country failing.
And for just regular movies here and there, I'm not bad at all. My derby scores are starting to become more and more consistant, I'm in the top group of scores with estimates this week.

Derby scores? That's not the same kind of predicting as this is, as it's all based on openings.
And yes, you constantly trail after me jumping in on whatever side of the argument I am against, and then you whine like a big crybaby when you get your feelings hurt. Back it off, or don't cry about what happens. I've tried to give you hint after hint that I'm not interested in getting into anymore discussions with you that are based on unfounded facts that can't be backed up, not even with a credible track record of good calls. You keep saying you are not going to get into arguments this week, but have yet to show the slightest bit of self control so far, just like how you expect people in the review forum that DOES allow spoilers, to do your thinking for you and tag spoilers, because you don't have the self control not to click on threads that are discussing details of the movies.
Seriously, if you want to argue, fine, but don't try your bullshit of blaming me like you've done in the past, when I have tried and tried to blow you off as "not worth arguing with".

Dude. This is the unofficial Walk the Line predict thread. I pointed out its HSX scores, and how I believe marketing has been absent.
That is not arguing. That is giving to the thread. I'm not the one who just spazzed out for no reason.

You trail after me with a tone in your posts of wanting to argue against me, and you suck at making good arguments. Just look at the slant you tried to give a meaningless HSX comment, and how this doesn't have any TV spots, when I see plenty, and ET just did a whole show on it, Oprah did a show on it, etc...
Was that post thought out, or were you just in such a rush to be a victim of the bad men who pick on you, that you typed before you thought?

STOP.
This is a stupid arguement. Shack, there's no need to argue with Maverikk if you know (and don't like) what response you're going to get. Maverikk, Shack only stated a few points about Walk the Line, and nothing more. It's not a big deal. Just ignore him.

That'd be a great opening. Does anyone know how many theatres it's likely going to be opening in?

Filmjerk lists it at 2500 right now, and I'd say that's the minimum.

You know, even if it does well at the Oscars I bet they will put it on DVD for Feb. considering that Ray and Seabiscuit had massive success on DVD that way. IMO that's what they should have done with others such as M&C. It might opening with 20m, but I don't think WTL will top 80m.
