Eh... Wouldn't be impressed if it did "only" $107m today. Yes I heard what I just said

Anyone who would have predicted this to get the OW record in two days would have been laughed at. Only people laughing now is Disney. They should go ahead and rename Disney World to Marvel world.

Re: Endgame Friday Official Estimate: Mother of Thanos
I disagree with the notion that this new record will not be beaten. Disney now owns Deadpool and X-Men. Add them to the current mix with Black Panther replacing Iron Man as Marvels new most popular character and I think the record could be approached. (Putting Deadpool in a PG-13 rated movie will be tough though ) Most of the "newer" marvel characters were hardly in Endgame. The new phase needs a villain as badass as Thanos, and that is going to be hard to do. But there is nothing outside of the marvel cinematic universe that will come close to touching this.

I don't think BP can simply be slotted in to replace Iron Man. He's popular mainly with one demo group. That said records are made to be broken and one day this one will be. However - it will be due to more of a build up to a climax rather than just throwing characters in together. It will be both actually.

Is Endgame really a conclusion of the MCU? Because I can't see Iron Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, et al not having a sequel.

This is the biggest boxoffice moment in all my 25 years of following the boxoffice. Right here. Right now. Where were you when Endgame dropped. That’s what your grandkids will ask you It's a game changer OW that only few films can truly claim - probably only TFA, The Avengers, Spider-Man 1 and possibly ID4. At least in the last 30 years.

New phases and sagas will be made from here on with many of the current characters. But it is the end of the road for some.

Aside from Chris Evans' Captain America (the actor said he's done with the character), I don't see any of these moneymakers going away.

They can always find some reason to come back (e.g. entering from another universe). Given the popularity of these characters, the only thing hindering their comeback would be the actors' contractual agreement.

RTH is saying 108-112m. Midpoint should confirm 360m+ for the weekend. So it has beaten OW record by 40% !!!! Not sure when was the last time OW record was broken by this big a margin.

How many people are seeing Endgame without having seen Infinity War or most of the other movies? That's the only way it can be this big. I guess you can enjoy this without knowing all the details from the other movies...right?

I think a majority of people haven't seen all of the MCU films but this is pretty much the pinnacle of 'must see' in pop culture.

I think almost everyone seeing this has seen IW. That made over $600m. The audience has just move up their viewing to the opening weekend.

Black Panther and Cap Marvel have nowhere near the charisma of RDJ's IM. At least, at the moment. Both are kinda boring honestly. The former is overshadowed by almost his entire supporting cast and the latter is Superman levels of interesting. In fact, no one matches RDJ's IM. Thor has come really close in the last couple movies but now being part of Asguardians of the Galaxy, he clearly isn't going to be leader or even much of a main role.
Also, besides Hawkeye, the entire main cast of the first Avengers is gone? Widow, IM and Cap obviously. I read that it is the last movie featuring Ruffalo as Hulk and as previously mentioned Thor has been absorbed into GOTG. That surely has an effect.

Re: Endgame Friday Official Estimate: Mother of Thanos
I can't see any film do this in a while but I do think The Lion King might have the slimmest, slimmest of chances.
Shorter run time. Halo of trailer views in front of this. Really the peak of Disney animation from the last 50 years since the hey day. TLK was the peak of the Disney animation "universe" so to speak of the 90's. Mermaid, BATB, Aladdin, then TLK as the peak, which feels so familiar...
BATB made $174,750,616 OW. The original made $218,967,620 and adjusts to $408,727,000 over all of its releases.
Meanwhile, TLK's domestic Lifetime Adj. Gross: $803,209,300, double BATB. To show the magnitude of this film, its September re-release in 3D made $107,350,800 alone which is ridiculous.
17 Jurassic Park Uni. $825,894,500 $402,828,120 1993^ 19 The Lion King BV $803,209,300 $422,783,777 1994^
Both JP and TLK adjust to about the same attendance. JP4 broke the OW record and there are still 4 JP movies since the original's release. TLK meanwhile has had no real theatrical follow ups. There is so much more pent up demand here for TLK then there was for JW.
Think it's going to far outpace JW and BATB. Getting the record won't likely happen but $275 m + I think OW could happen. TLK has double the admissions of BATB. If it followed the same ratio for OW's TLK would do $349 m.
Total wise could still beat Avengers primarily because all of the songs will push repeat viewings for a long time.
Biggest drawback is the cheaper family tickets.

All records get broken. This will to. It’ll most likely be from a movie we least expect.

I think Deadpool has as much charisma as RDJ as Iron Man. I look forward to a movie with Thor, Deadpool and Drax having a conversation. Comedic gold!

But this is far more impressive considering the record may be broken by over $100m in just one year!!! Insanity!
