Okay, let me put this out there...I think the dinosaurs design in this sucks. Really sucks. I will see it, but for someone accustomed to brilliant Pixar animation, this does not lookv isually appealing.

This movie is one of Pixar's weaker efforts - it's absolutely gorgeous visually but the story just isn't there. It's geared much more to small children than something like Inside Out.

It is well above average though, right? It should have good WOM?

I think its odd that Pixar had such an unending string of 11 masterpieces, but only 1 out of their last five films has been on par with those first 11. Is someone who used to be involved not anymore? Why have they lowered their standards for the release of a film?

You count Cars as a masterpiece?

Maybe masterpiece is strong, but I do consider it very good.

This is my least favorite Pixar film since Cars (I didn't see the sequel so not counting that). It's just very forgettable and honestly the main character is really annoying. It will do well with families though.

The Good Dinosaur has less than 150K FB likes, which is well off the pace of Brave and not even in the same galaxy as Inside Out. Twitter activity last 2 weeks is just a bit better than HT2.

I think we're in for another disappointment. Creed will win the weekend.

After seeing it I'm going to be really surprised if this does over 220 million... Bizarre how Pixar could make one of the best and one of their worst movies in 1 year.

TGD is between IO and FD which makes me think that Pixar was being strategic about this one. Even if it ends a whimper they would get some good cash out of it because of holidays and it won't impact their brand name heavily.

The answer to this was yes yes yes. I still think it will play well throughout the holidays, as it has no direct competition until Kung Fu Panda 3. At least there are no blockbusters for the Star Wars hype to destroy. All clear until the record smashing begins.

For some reason The Good Dinosaur feels like such a non-event. It is also bombing in Germany. Going to have the worst Pixar start ever and will open to about HALF of what Hotel Transylvania 2 opened to.

I'm kind of pleased, though. Pixar were too successful for too long, and they (or at least their fans) are too fucking arrogant. But on the other hand, it is an "original" Pixar movie, which is always sad to see them underperform. It's films like this that will just push them closer to making a Cars cinematic universe and endless sequels. So guys, expect Brave 2, Toy Story: The Early Years, and Monsters, Inc.: Rogue Scarers.

I was suggesting a Toy Story prequel, which is the point in any franchise when you know that saturation has reached a detrimental level.

Again, Inside Out $350 m +, Dinosaur $200 m, Finding Nemo $500 m, no one will care about this in 6 months.

They won't do a Toy Story prequel mainly because Buzz Lightyear couldn't be in it.

And why couldn't he? Of course he could. You just show Buzz's early years as not part of the group, and intertwine that with scenes of a younger Andy with Woody and the others. And you could even introduce some new now-deleted toys.

Maybe a film exploring the moment when Pizza Planet transformed from a mom-and-pop dive into a franchise.

Cars is miles better than this. Cars doesn't take itself too seriously, and it has much more memorable characters. It's also never nearly as boring as this is.

Buzz was a brand new toy when Andy got him. He first became aware when he left the box. It just wouldn't work.

I would totally be into Rogue Scarers.

Oh, open your mind, you square.

How about (and I came up with this in 10 seconds) a Buzz Lightyear prototype in his inventors workshop a few years before the toy hit the shelves. We could see how he became the toy we know him as, and he could have tons of adventures with the other toys his inventor is developing. That is just one story that could be made into a movie - A LOT worse ideas have been made into movies.
