 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
San Andreas polled as poorly as Battleship here. We could be off a bit but $30m+ seems like a stretch.

San Andreas - 55 Aloha - 14
I feel like we are seriously underestimating San Andreas. I don't see it open below Noah, which is considered a disaster film.

This is how I've always felt, and I'm as big of a Rock fan as you'll find. Earthquakes were a boring threat and are now far too real a threat. There was never the middle ground this movie would need to succeed. 2012 had earthquakes, tsunamis, super volcanoes and an ancient Mayan prophecy.

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
Flava'd makes a valid point. It would be like making a Die Hard film in 2017 with only one terrorist and expecting it to blow people away. Or a Jurassic Park film all about the triceratops. San Andreas really is from the 1990s in every single way. It just looks so unspectacular, even its effects. I swear ID4 had better effects. And poor old Dwayne, he's this century's Jesse Ventura. Sure, he earns more and he's more pumped, but he's comparatively (to his box office) as pathetic and unpopular.

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
I can't see overseas audiences caring either. It might make $300m worldwide just because its opening in the summer and is a largely easy watch blockbuster. But Battle: Los Angeles kind of proves that nobody cares about these films anymore. Alien invasions, mass destruction etc. Unless it's a Transformers film. It could gross exactly what B: LA did actually, but being that it's the summer, a little more ($300m) is likely.

Still believe San Andreas will be big, earning more than 120 million total stateside.

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
I have a hard time not seeing this do at least $35 m. The horrendous looking Hercules (second film that year) did $30 m. The Rock can anchor $25-30 m openings usually on his own.
With this weekend underwhelming, Andreas can overperform a bit. Add in goodwill from the Fast franchise and $50 m is doable imo.

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
SA's marketing IMO has been fairly strong. If it fails I think it's due to a played out concept. The shots of the tidal wave would have been killer 10 years ago.

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
SA only has 20K user ratings on RT, a pretty terrible figure for a disaster film with just a few days to go.

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
Another issue I've started to think about is that SF is the new "it" place it seems for film locations for these big budget action blockbusters. It's featured in San Andreas, Ant-Man, AND Terminator and that's just this summer. It was also featured for Planet of the Apes, Big Hero 6, Godzilla, Pacific Rim, Ghost Protocol, Transcendence, Star Trek 1/2 and probably more that I missed.

frankly, I'm only going to check it out cause The Rock is awesome and Alexandra Daddario is a smoke. Haha, the film makes such blatant use of Daddario being smoking hot, worth 3D alone. Her first scene is of course in a bikini.

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
I'm kind of in the mood for an old school crappy disaster movie. I was watching The Day After Tomorrow on cable the other day and forgot how awesomely dumb that movie is.
