 Re: Black Friday Numbers
Damn this weekend sucks. Outside of Interstellar's great hold their is really nothing to talk about here. Horrible Bosses 2 and Penguins underperformed even more than the lowest expectations, and neither will probably reach $100M.
HB2 definitely won't, and there is no guarantee Penguins will hold up all that well next month with so many family friendly films coming out. It might barely get over the mark just like ROTG.

 Re: Black Friday Numbers
If Penguins reason is, like Magnus' said, because of a TV show...well, same like How to Train Your Dragon 2.
KFP3 next year is gonna suffer. Probably $120m tops. Since Star Wars, maybe $100m and that would really be the death knell for DWA.
Serves them right though. They sold out their characters to cheap television.

It can co-exist with Top Five. Won't have any other comedy competition until Christmas when The Interview opens.

 Re: Black Friday Numbers
Why? I assume they earn a helluva lot of money through international sales of these TV shows.

 Re: Black Friday Numbers
I don't know what the TV show sales are like though. If its enough to offset the 100m+ they lost on Dragon 2 - then it's all good for them.

It's a mess of a company, with a bleak future. The executives pay themselves ludicrous salaries (Katzenberg makes $9m a year). They don't make money at pretty much anything. The idea that a company was going to buy Dreamworks strikes me as completely insane....Hasbro shareholders broke out the pitchforks when the balloon was floated.

It'll be interesting to see if LGF goes to 3D to ensure that part II is considerably bigger. I'm still perplexed how the franchise just lost a big chunk of its audience given the WOM of the first two. Even if the marketing for this was less exciting, one would assume that anyone who saw the first two in theaters and liked it would show up for this. . A big draw were the Games. This one has no games. $330 million isn't bad.

I'm sure Penguins will still do 100 million. It may not beat PEabody and Sherman though.
