 Re: May 2-4 Predictions
After seeing the movie I don't think this will generate enough interest on Saturday and Sunday outside of the core fanbase. I am now doubting $100m OW for this.
Changing mine to $97m just above CA2 because of a HUGE OD.

 Re: May 2-4 Predictions
Quote: 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Looking Rosy By Alex Edghill
Tuesday Morning Update: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had a strong start to its week with 16,690 tweets on the day, good enough for fourth spot amongst all tracked films. The most important comparison here will be the first film of the reboot franchise The Amazing Spider-Man which actually had just 3,322 tweets four days before its release. The first film had a much different release pattern as it was released on a Tuesday and managed to rack up $137 million through its first six days and over $750 million worldwide. Its is common for sequels to see a big bump in traffic over the original, but with significantly more traffic I believe it is in line for more box office riches. It should be able to top 9 digits and be the first film on the year to crack $100 million, while also securing the number 1 opening of 2014 (currently held by Captain America: The Winter Soldier's $95 million).
The Fault In Our Stars continues to do surprisingly well on Twitter, as it led all films on Monday thanks to a new trailer. Star Shailene Woodley has really exploded this year and this film plays very well to young girls and women who are one of the most vocal demographics on Twitter. The fact that the worst three tweet to box office dollar ratios this year came from films catering to this demo (Vampire Academy, Endless Love and Divergent) serve as timely reminders. Stars looks to be a Summer hit in the wings as it is handily trouncing Endless Love's numbers at the same distance out. http://www.boxoffice.com/news/2014-04-2 ... oking-rosy

Again it might have a big OD but I believe the WOM might prevent it to open above $100m.

WOM won't be so bad that it will hurt it OW. I'm sure audiences will enjoy it well enough.

 Re: May 2-4 Predictions
Let's hope so.
BTW I am surprised that Walk of Shame doesn't have a single RT review yet. Not good signs for it. I think they could have released it wide at some later time and have earned $8m-$10m theatrically.

 Re: May 2-4 Predictions
I think Walk of Shame would have been good for 6-7 Million OW with a wide release. Seems like an odd choice to receive a limited one.

Spiderman is on the verge of going rotten. The last film to have rotten reviews that opened the summer was Wolverine Origins.

 Re: May 2-4 Predictions
I am not surprised that the Top Critics are not liking this one. Its just one of the weakest entry with good action scenes IMO and I was yearning for the quality level similar to Spider-Man 2.

 Re: May 2-4 Predictions
It's kind of going back and forth. It could still end up fresh by tomorrow.
It's a shame. It's leagues better than Spider-Man 3. Shouldn't affect the box office at all though - it's a total crowdpleaser.

 Re: May 2-4 Predictions
If it's hovering over Fresh/Rotten, then it means it will ultimately end up as rotten. When the newspaper reviews come in (usually later than the rest), they are usually harsher, so it will receive more negatives, pushing it over into Rotten. But as you said, it makes little difference, it's not the first time a mega blockbuster has received a Rotten RT score and still made hundreds of millions.

 Re: May 2-4 Predictions
If it is as bad as the reviews suggest, it will effect its legs. I think we can forget 300 million with these reviews, and 250 may not happen unless it opens very well. Really, Sony better not bring back Webb and also hire different writers for the next one.

Reviews aren't even that bad. The average rating on RT is a 6/10.

 Re: May 2-4 Predictions
It is under 6 now at 5.9 and the top critics are awful at 35%. The reviews remind me of MOS last year. I will probably be going with very low expectations.

Hell, the previous Spiderman movie got over 70%. I think this film just has problems.

Youtube: 104.5m Prediction: 103m
That's top 5 all time on Youtube, but more people are using it to watch trailers than ever. The final trailer did poorly, which tends to mean a weak ratio. It will still be one of 4 100m trailers for the year along with DOFP, Transformers 4, and TMNT.

It's more about the brash campaign of the Summer blockbuster than the blockbuster itself, though.

I actually just got an e-mail:
"Are you a potential film critic? Then by no means are you allowed to enjoy superhero films made by Sony Pictures."
