Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier Predictions
Watchmen opened to $55m and closed with $107m. Add $5m to the opening and say, $15m, to the total, and my prediction is totally possible. Adding $15m to the total is also very generous since its multiplier was only 1.9.

$55 mil is not $60 mil.

I accept that, but surely you brain can do a bit of math.

I'll lower my prediction to 60/150. Movie looks so meh.

Highly doubt a film with Shield as well would cause it to drop.

The Shield tv show is pretty meh and last I heard ratings were dropping fast, so obviously mainstream audiences don't care much about that aspect of the franchise, but this is MUCH bigger in terms of scope and it does star CA.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier Predictions
The trailer won't help its aspects to get $200m. Its April release date is also random. I am sure it will do great but I don't think its a lock for $200m. The movie looks really bad and Thor showed that the Avengers effect is not HUGE enough for all individual movies.
The first opened to $65m in a very difficult spot so I do believe this will open a bit higher but not by much.
$70m/$185m (A slightly lesser multiplier than the original).

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier Predictions
I'm wondering if this will manage an 80 million dollar opening. I'm gonna say 81 million for now, I hope if it does well it'll get other studios to release big movies not just in summer/winter.

This seems to be the best MCU of phase 2, it looks good and should make more than 225m

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier Predictions
I think a tad lower OW than Thor 2, but a tad over $220 mil for the total.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier Predictions
it's tracking 5 million better than Thor 2 (80m compared to 75m) so I think it should open higher. Like 90m

I really sort of loved it but it's not at all kid-friendly. Even THE DARK KNIGHT let kids laugh about the Joker. This is all about politics and government corruption.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier Predictions
Thor is more popular among general auds (well here anyway) so CA should open a little lower than Thor 2.
TDS - does the film have the 70s paranoia essence the directors harped on about a while back?

A bit. The whole thing is about how SHIELD is rotting from corruption.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier Predictions
Hmm I think based on no intense direct competition I think this will get a decent run as I think its a more serious film like IM1.

People that were going to go to IMAX will go see it anyway, so the difference will probably minimal. I'd be surprised if this opens more than $3 million above or below what Thor 2 did, but this should have stronger legs due to A) probably stronger WOM and B) not having two $400 million grossers open within three weeks of it.

It does have Spiderman which will hurt its legs in May. I still think it will do around 200-225. Can't see it going higher than that.

That'll be in its fifth weekend though, whereas Thor faced a $158 million opener in its third weekend, and then a $93 million 5-day opener in its fourth weekend. Having two massive films open so early in its run might've cost it at least $10-20 million, I think, which I can see Captain America making back up.
