 Re: Early Friday
Bad-to-awful for every movie, except GU2. The holdovers imploded.

With those estimates, I'd project these for the top 3... Grown Ups 2 42-43M Despicable Me 2 - 41M Pacific Rim - 35-36M

 Re: Early Friday
Finke Update:
Grown Ups 2 - 16.5M 43-46M B cinemascore (same as first movie) Despicable Me 2 - 15M 44-47M Pacific Rim - 13.5M 35-39M (A- cinemascore)
That would be a rather large difference for the gross of Despicable Me 2, and the difference between winning the weekend or not.

Wow. Really bad for PR from the early numbers.

 Re: Early Friday
Yeah that's shit for Pacific Rim - I guess it did attract sci-if geeks and GDT devotees up front.
Grown Ups doesn't surprise. The first had great legs so there is an audience clamouring for more. I haven't seen the first film so may give it a try to see how bad or not it really is.

 Re: Early Friday
I guess the 7:45p screening I went to that was 85-90% full was either a fluke, or geeks/GDT fans/etc. packed the Friday evening screenings. I will say that at my screening, most of the audience seemed like the kind of people who would buy on walkup rather than Fandango, and they filled in during the last 10 minutes before the start time.
Notice that both Nikki and RTH revised their numbers up from earlier - not by much, to be sure, but I have a feeling this is a film that won't have much matinee business.
As much as it pains me to admit it, my prediction about PR being the Cowboys & Aliens of 2013 could well turn out to be correct. I'm not sure what the WOM is going to be on PR. My audience all seemed to enjoy it, there was even a bit of applause at the end (this summer, the only other screening I went to that got applause was opening night of DM2). But are they just the geeks and first-nighters?

FWIW, I have only been in two audiences this summer where applause broke out at the end: After Earth and The Lone Ranger. It is an interesting phenomena - - and quite rare these days. Personally, I never saw the point of applauding for movies... unlike theatre, the actors can't hear you.

 Re: Early Friday
I heard applause at Star Trek into Darkness, Now You See Me, Man of Steel, and The Lone Ranger.

 Re: Early Friday
I barely hear any applause anymore nowadays. There has definitely beena shift in that ebcause I used to hear much more applause around 1999-2003. There was applause after She's All That back in 1999, I shit you not.
