you people do realize that it's been 7 years since X3 right? X-Men is nowhere near its popularity. Just because they're bringing back folks doesn't mean the entire original base of X2/X3 will come, particularly since First Class really didn't have that great of WOM (even if people here loved it so much).

Having said that, I do think it can be big (like 225m-250m) still. But it has its limits.

Do you realize it had better legs than X2 despite being released 8 years later (with the movies have become more frontloaded)?!

And it also opened to about half the admissions as X2 so yeah. Weak point doc. Legs don't mean much when you have that softer of an opening.

Though you meant WOM rather than legs specifically and on that point - FC didnt have the general WOM of X2 no or even X1.

Yeah, the data shows X1 and X2 were better liked by the general public than First Class.

Wish I had the cinemascore for Wolverine or X3, but can't find them.

Wolverine being back is 50%+ boost alone. Ian McKellan and Jennifer Lawrence are but two examples of how the cast has only become more recognizable than ever too. Add in 3D and what we can safely assume will be a boffo marketing effort by Fox, and I think this club has a great chance of success... Especially worldwide!

In.

I know Wolverine was hated by everyone. X3 was hated by the fans but not sure about general audiences.

I think this will do very well. The combo of (some of) the old cast and the First Class crew will be appealing.

FC was well liked...

Interest has come back to the X-Men Series and I think FC2 will pass 200 million.

Marketing will need to be good to avoid confusion. But I expect big numbers

I think FC2 would be on line for 190-210 on it's own and a 80 million opening. The extra factor should be enough at least for a huge opening weekend. Legs are certainly no on X-Men's side

It also includes 3D and if they market this well it could easily increase. The question still remains if it gets close to $300m. As of now all the factors are looking very good for a big breakout.

Hobbit 3 has moved to December 2014, making X-Men all alone.

And so the perfect storm begins. :D

Ok with that move I am in now. There is the possibility WB could move Transcendence with Johnny Depp, but they will probably release that in June. Even if they due that movie is no guarantee to be a hit.

Also it looks Halle Berry will be back as well

This film will have a lot of Oscar winners and nominees with Lawerence, Paquin, Berry and Mckellan, Page, and Jackman. Throw in Dinklage emmy win and Patrick Stewart's Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and you have a lot of hardware.

I am afraid that with a cast as large as this, Michael Fassbender's role will be much smaller than in the first film (where he was the best thing about it).

Well, some of these actors could have nothing more than cameos. I am sure Fassbender will have a decent size role.

I think McAvoy, Fassbender and Jlaw will still be the leads. Wouldn't even be surprised to see Ellen have the most screen time of the old guard.

I don't know Hugh Jackman is up there as well and probably will be a focus of the marketing.

Neither were that hated, I know people that love both Wolverine and X3

Most fans hate X3, myself included. It really did an awful job at the Phoenix Saga. Wolverine was an abomination that film made X3 look oscar worthy.

Wolverine was awful, but I don't hate X3 as much as most people. It's still fairly entertaining at times and it goes at a good pace, but coming off the VERY AWESOME X2 it's definitely a disappointment quality wise.

As for this I can see BIG numbers, but The Wolverine better turn out to be more than just your average superhero movie, because a lot of the goodwill towards this movie will surely be coming off of that. Also, while XFC was solid I do not believe it's as loved as people think. It was good, but I don't feel it came anywhere close to having the same impact on general audiences as X2.

I really think this is going to big. A revival of the franchise of sorts.
