You realize that it's a dark R-rated historical epic headlined by Orlando Bloom, right? Good point. 5. Kingdom of Heaven - $1.00 If Troy can make 130+ million, there's no reason why a good R-rated historical epic starring Orlando Bloom can't make an extra 70 mill. Plus I'm counting the fall rerelease for Oscar. Did Gladiator have a rerelease for the Oscar? I think it did and it made an extra million. So I suppose you expect it to make $199 million in its first run Troy had infinitely much more going for it than Kingdom of Heaven. It had better marketing (okay, arguable), a bigger cast, it was based on a much more popular story (who is too interested in Crusades?) and it wasn't nearly as dark as Kingdom of Heaven. Besides that you say "a good R-rated historical epic starring Orlando Bloom". Well, it is headlined by Bloom. How on earth can the words "good" and "Orlando Bloom" be in the same sentence? I mean, it will be good, yeah, that's what early reviews indicate as well. But it won't be a masterpiece and to make anywhere close to the sum you've mentioned, it'd need to be a masterpiece.
I also said that ROTK would make 232.4 billion dollars based on the Bloom factor.
I'm not flawless ok.
I know of a certain kraut who won't be getting a dead man's massive dvd collection if he continues on.

Have I mentioned that Kingdom of Heaven will actually most likely break $200 million?

All I know is I started asking my non-movie geek friends about it yesterday to get a sense of what regular people think and had to sigh when all the women were variations on "I love Orlando Bloom" (and we're talking people over 30...) and the guys were saying the action looked cool and they wanted to see it.
So for now, I've upped my expectations of it's box office.

I have to agree. Troy with more hype didn't manage to top $140m, so KOH will most likely not even come close to $200m even if it's better which i'm not doubting, though it doesn't look to be as good as Gladiator ot Braveheart. The most i can see this doing is $150m and i realy hope it gets there.

If Gladiator couldn't do $200 million, there's no way in hell Kingdom of Heaven can.

You guys are acting like all the differences between Troy and KoH are in Troy's favor but they aren't. The only advantage Troy had was Brad Pitt who has never even been that big of a box office draw. I've been harsh on KoH but the fact is KoH has some advantages over Troy.
Troy looked like a beefcake fest for women, and a lot of men steered clear of it and still today roll their eyes when their wives want to rent it. KoH is much more "accessible" for the average guy, guys won't go to it thinking they'll have to stare at sweaty half naked men for 2 hours.
KoH also has a director much more at home in this environment. Peterson was entering into uncharted waters for himself, and he just didn't come across as comfortable with the genre, he seemed in over his head and stealing camera moves from Fellowship of the Ring. Scott comes across as a kid in a toy store, loving every minute of it and fully capable of handling the demands of a big movie like this.
Troy also had the disadvantage of some negative hype about the whole Gods aspect of the Illiad not being included in the story. Not all the hype for Troy was positive.
Having said that, I don't know if KoH will get 200 million, but I predict that KoH will make more than Troy did domestically. That was around 133m right? It should be able to beat that at least, with a chance at more.
And yes I've changed my mind about the prospects for this movie as you can see. I used to be more skeptical, mainly about Bloom but I think he might just pull it off.

It had also appeal to guys (Diane Kruger). And you're forgetting all the gays. Archie Gates wrote: KoH also has a director much more at home in this environment. As already mentioned, KoH will most likely be superior to Troy but without it being an exceptionaly well received movie which it most likely won't it'll have a tough time beating Troy, because it's opening weekend will be quite a tad lower. The same can be said for KoH (the depiction of muslims).

My initial prediction was 90 m, but if you think about it, WB won't let their second biggest movie of the summer gross less than 100 m.

Yeah but whenever I see the trailer attached to a movie, it gets NO reaction. Everyone (including my school) says "why are they remaking WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY?"

Here's my stab at this:
1. War of the Worlds - $321M
2. SITH - $320M
3. Madagascar - $220M
4. Bewitched - $180M
5. Batman Begins - $150M
6. Stealth $140M
7. Fantastic Four - $140M
8. Kingdom of Heaven - $130M
9. Longest Yard - $130M
10. Charlie & the Chocolate Factory - $120M
This game is fun. Kinda like throwing spaghetti on the wall. Maybe some of it will stick

Yeah, I'd agree with Archie actually on:

That was one of the main things I heard from a lotta people who didn't see it for that reason. This one definitely luckily doesn't have that as a problem.
