It is possible that hype picks up unexpectably at any time during the 3 or 5-day and therefore their numbers will be off by a lot.

Her articles are posted at those times, but the "estimates" from the studios are not done that late. And considering I've barely seen any advertising for Life of Pi (a couple of commercials off and on, but they'd be easy to miss) that number would be pretty good for it too.
Then again Nikki doesn't seem to know a damn thing about how numbers work, so I'll take this with a grain of salt. Again, nobody believes these numbers to be gospel.
