 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
Theres no way on earth it does less than shutter island. SI had excellent marketing, but it doesnt matter. Dicpario is a mega star playing an incredibly famous character. SI is the VERY BOTTOM for what it can.
I f it is 'very good', this is gong to do 50/185ish.

Further proof that nobody knows about, let alone gives a shit about J Edgar Hoover. It was a boring, dry role. Gatsby is flashy. Its money.

J. Edgar and Gatsy are totally comparable movies, though! I mean, Leo in old man makeup is just like Leo looking like a boss.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
If this is as good as it could be, I wouldn't be surprised at a huge gross, actually. Like, best picture type stuff. If that happens, a 55/250 run would not surprise me at all. Gatsby obviously sticks WAY out in comparison to Iron Man, Star Trek, Hangover, Fast and Furious, etc.

Magnus wrote: breakout for Gatsby would be like 150m IMO. Not 250m . sheesh. No no no. It depends on rating, obviously. I am assuming it is PG-13. If the films does, say 85% or better on Rotten Tomatoes? It is going to go sky high. 50 million + opening weekend, and a long, leggy run. 4.0+ multiplier, etc. Now, if the film is horrible, or even just bad? Much lower. 40/120ish. But 3D? May opening? Enormously famous and popular book? It's going to a lot more than Shutter Island ever did. If this is a dud...could be a bad summer for W.B. Pacific Rim is rissssssssky.

I will be ecstatic if this makes over $125 mil. Heck, I'll be happy with over $100 mil.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
I see no way this opening under $30 million. With 3D? That would be beyond pathetic.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
The biggest problem is getting males for this. There is just too much competition around it. Females would come ofcourse but this does not look interesting enough to get $30m+ worth of audience.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
I think the fact it has the wierd strange feel will turn off the general audience to this film.
I think if this released around X-mas it would have done quite well.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
I have a feeling that this will breakout. The release date is looking less strange the more I look at the schedule, I'm thinking it will get the older crowd and its legs may not be disastrous (if it's not bad) since there is a lack of major films for older adults in the summer. We'll see, I think 100+ will happen though.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
Id be shocked at under 100m. 40/110 seems like the basic ballpark.

I think it might open between 25-30 Million, possibly a little more.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
This will depend on how big IM3 opens. If it just floods out of the gate like Avengers and becomes a good WOM hit then TGG might have problems opening big.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
I think there will be plenty of room for both, especially with Gatsby being more female skewing.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
That is what people really underestimate. I don't think a $150m+ opener will skew only males. Similar to last year when Avengers broke out big time and we had Depp with Dark Shadows next weekend. Dark Shadows and Gatsby are very similar in good star power and known/acclaimed directors. IM3 could surely impact its OW if it is HUGE over OW and WOM is good.
