NRG tracking report:

"Most audiences, though, will be at WRATH OF THE TITANS (assuming they’re not still flocking to THE HUNGER GAMES). That film is tracking at 76% total awareness as well, 39% definite interest, and 15% first choice for younger men, 16% for older men, 6% for younger women, and 8% for older women."

Hmm, yeah, I wouldn't underestimate this. I admit that the trailer is kinda weak but I don't think anyone felt the hype for Clash either and that pulled off a $65m opening.

The tv ads for this have made me want to see it, something I never felt for the first one. I'm not sure what the budget is but as long as it isn't crazy high it should end up decent. Probably like 125m domestic and do well over seas.

No. International ticket sales will save it.

That said if it does bomb domestically, one reason why is probably because they aren't really clearly communicating any sort of story. Showcasing all the different monsters and beasts is all well and good, but without context the trailer aren't communicating why audiences should care. The TV spots have done a better job of this though, highlighting Worthington having to rescue Zeus from the underworld:

So I don't think it'll be an epic fail, but because 3D + Sam Worthington are so 2010, I'll predict a Charlies Angels: Full Throttle run: 39/101

Clash of the Titans had one of the best trailers ever - this one is just cool, but nothing spectacular. We all know how much it benefited from Avatar - things are different this time. I say it's $30 m OW tops. But who cares really - it will be a big hit internationally, and simply huge in Russia - I see $40-45 m.

Story? What's that?

Hollywood eliminated stories in their summer blockbusters back in the 90's.

Don't you know they've been making a comeback?

I still don't see it making less than $30 million opening wekend which should give it a $80 million total and probably over $300 million worldwide, making Warner a tidy profit. If this crosses $100 million domestially, I wouldn't rule out a third film as these are always big overseas...

Got no info on that, but I assume it is in the same ballpark as for the first ($125 million). Anything above $150 million would be extremely stupid.

With that $150m budget it will need to make more than $350m and somewhere close to $400m WW to get back its money. Doable but not guaranteed as of now....the movie really is in big trouble.
