Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
Thats a better number for Alvin. It should increase today as well. I still think it can get a 50 Million Weekend.

Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
Even if Sherlock drops today it willl still be over 20mill which is a AMAZING hold. Avatar should increase today through WOM and Alvin should have some kind of kiddie bumps, but it's officially no threat to Sherlock or Avatar this weekend. Either way Satuday is going to really busy at the theatres aswell.

Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
God, Disney messed up Princess and the Frog so much. Fantastic weekend, especially for the Top 6. Craziest thing about this season: After having no mvoies last fall top $200 million, we're on track to have FIVE movies top the mark this year, with two pairs of those movies opening the same weekend.

Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
And Sherlock is at $24.9 right ? It should have no problem topping 200mill domestic.

Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
With MCN:
Stupendous numbers for Sherlock Holmes. Almost $26M? My god. Robert Downey Jr has one of the biggest comebacks I've ever seen in Hollywood.
Avatar's 9% hold is jaw-dropping. Extremely impressive.
Alvin 2 is also doing fantastic. Really solid numbers for It's Complicated, looks headed for about $22M and a possible $100M+ total. Up in the Air expanded really well.
The Blind Side is spectacular once again. Really disheartening for Princess and the Frog...I don't get why more people aren't seeing it, it's wonderful.
Kind of blah for Nine. Think they should've waited until January to open it wide.

I agree with Libs. RDJ is on the top of the world right now and with IM2 coming out next year I wouldn't be suprised if became the next Johnny Depp. Most people I know saw this because of him.

Wow, monster numbers! Maybe now after this and last year studios will really start putting some big properties out the week starting Christmas. I'm really surprised it never happened much before last year, actually.

Another AVATAR record:
Biggest second Friday ever (beating TDK's $23.2m)...

Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
Maybe after seeing the success of Sherlock WB might just move Due Date. Also alot of people are forgetting that Tron:Legacy has the potential to really breakout, but I doubt it's going to be the next Avatar. It's up to Tron, Narnia, Gulliver and Hornet to make December a big month.

Fockers will benefit alot more by being released in X-mas than Narnia.

If my showing was any indication, the flick is not a crowd pleaser at all. There are only a couple of rousing songs, and even they didn't generate any applauses like Chicago did, after every song. And the whole thing is much more disjointed. I felt people were murmuring instead of excited as they left the theater. Waiting out longer probably may have helped the opening some, but legs will still suffer, and it wouldn't have the holiday weekdays to help.

Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
In trumping the $75 million record set last Christmas, both “Avatar” and “Sherlock Holmes” came up huge. Fox’s James Cameron-directed 3D epic took in $23.3 million Friday, according to studio estimates, and is being tracked to actually grow 7 percent from its premiere weekend with a $82 million three-day total. "Avatar" could have as much as $220 million in its domestic coffers once the weekend is over. http://www.thewrap.com/article/massive- ... 233m-12230

Hmm not sure what they did wrong... Yeah I don't think it's doing too bad for a 2D film. The Emperor's New Groove only made 89 mil. Granted with inflation that would be more, but it also had better WOM and was released in 2000 generally before CGI REALLY started dominating My guess is that the Princess and the Frog just isn't clicking with audiences. Its opening is fine, the legs have been weak...

Seriously what do they smoke in Fox HQ? Avatar would need to go up 40% on Saturday and fall 20% on Sunday to make 82M $ over the weekend.
