 Re: The IMAX Thread
How is KFP going to get IMAX if Pirates opens a week before it? Same thing goes for TF3, which opens a week after Cars.
KFP could have its IMAX release delayed one week, giving Pirates two weeks of play. But Potter opens two weeks after TF3 does, so that wouldn't work out (I really doubt WB would let the same delayed opening for HBP happen this time).

 Re: The IMAX Thread
Something needs to come after Green Hornet...
Inception's legs will be greatly helped by such a long period of IMAX only for itself.

Oh, so Thor isn't receiving an IMAX release? Surprising.

 Re: The IMAX Thread
GRAVATAR it is... Gravity's stellar box office run continues to impress box office observers. It remains a huge draw in 3D and in Imax, which has now delivered a total $38 million in total ticket sales. Over the weekend, Imax grosses clocked in at $7.4 million, the second best showing for a film in its third weekend after Avatar. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/b ... o-1-649646

 Re: The IMAX Thread
I'm a little scared for it in two weeks when it loses its IMAX screens to Ender's Game. Could it have a 50%+ drop that weekend?

Magnus wrote: yeah Ender's Game/Thor taking away IMAX/3D screens will be the biggest blow to Gravity. Well, GRAVITY did $23.7m in non-IMAX theaters this weekend - that's still a healthy gross... And THOR is an INTL IMAX release...

 Re: The IMAX Thread
Yeah, almost all screens in the U.S. now are digital and capable of 3D. It's not like it was 2-3 years ago. The film should continue to do fine outside of IMAX, though losing such a big moneymaker only four full weeks into its run will still hurt. If it had those screens for just a couple more weeks $300 million would probably be certain. And there's no way Ender's Game makes $7.4 million opening weekend. Maybe some screens will go to half-Enders/half-Gravity on the 8th or 15th?

It'll pull a TDK and get IMAX screens back in January.

 Re: The IMAX Thread
Gravity already lost 45 Imax screens in its 2nd weekend to Captain Phillips, so it should be able to avoid a 50% drop I think when it loses more.

 Re: The IMAX Thread
Quote: IMAX Corporation and The Walt Disney Studios, a division of The Walt Disney Company, today announced an agreement to release several of Disney’s upcoming films in IMAX® theatres under an extension of the companies’ long-running relationship.
Under the agreement, IMAX will be part of Disney’s release strategy for its most highly-anticipated live-action tentpole films, including Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 2014), Maleficent (May 2014), Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (August 2014), and Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 2015), Tomorrowland (May 2015) and Star Wars: Episode VII (December 2015). http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=116262Avengers 2 and Star Wars Episode VII were expected, but Maleficent and Guardians of the Galaxy weren't on the official IMAX schedule (and still aren't, actually), even though both their trailers brag about the IMAX 3D, so that's interesting. That also makes for a pretty tight IMAX schedule for the first six weeks of summer. And Tomorrowland, cool!
