The Golden Globe nomination for Cruise, and everyone scratching their heads over it, suddenly made him a household name again. That and didn't he go on TV and apologize for acting wierd a few weeks ago. All that, he has suddenly redeemed himself. That, and the film looks good.

Sorry I don't buy that Cruise's stock ever dropped. People point to MI3 dropping as their best evidence but conveniently ignore that MI2 had horrible WOM (B- at Yahoo) and that it was released 6 years after MI2, which has caused similar drops for a couple other franchises (Rush Hour, Mummy). Valkyrie's biggest problem is that it has 4 new openers that are stealing its dollars. If this had come out in a weekend with only one opener like other previous Cruise movies (LS, VS, Collateral) this would have likely matched the opening weekend figures of those movies.
