What spoof will Fox and "2 of the 6 writers of Scary Movie" release next January? I'm hoping for Sports Movie since inspirational sports dramas are practically crying out for parody. I remember a few years back they were going to make one of the Scary Movie films into a fantasy/sci-fi spoof film about LOTR/Star Wars/Harry Potter - but that didnt happen.
Yeah, I seem to recall that as well. I think that was back when the Wayans were still involved in the frachise.

Man, these spoof movies really seem to sell in spite of pretty much everyone I've talked to and everyone on WOKJ saying how awful this one in particular looked. I don't get it.

Basically the wide array of recent spoof targets makes tweens and young teens feel like they're "in on the joke" as odds are
they have seen at least 2 or 3 of the spoofed films. That they now are just one or two edits away from R also lets them
feel like they are "getting away" with seeing something dirty.
That and in general they cater to the gotta see it opening weekend crowd which helps inflate opening day and weekend dramatically.
So really even though more than a few WOKJ users are in their late teens, even that is getting to be "too old" as far these
kind of films skew.

Makes sense and all but guarantees another spoof from the same people will be released next January. I guess that they release them so early in the year as to avoid the Razzies, as Date Movie didn't get any noms and Epic Movie is likely to follow suit because people just forgot about it.

The Razzies are a joke anyway (literally...!) so I don't think studios care about them generally.

There is a spoof of Sports Movies coming out, it's called "The Comebacks." It comes out in August.

Pretty much, though it's possible SUPERHERO! may take the place of a direct followup to EPIC MOVIE if for some reason they can't get one out quickly enough. The one issue is that while still relatively cheap, spoof movie budgets are escalating as they recreate ever escalating budgeted movies. SCARY MOVIE 4 cost almost 10x what SAW 2 cost to make and it's a pretty safe bet that EPIC MOVIE probably cost around 40 million vs the less FX intensive DATE MOVIE's 20.

Well, at least it seems that spoof movies are almost guaranteed to be minor hits time and time again.

Catch and Release, Stomp the Yard and Epic Movie sold out, too. It seemed pretty busy.

Epic Movie @ 3:55 - 75% full in 275-seater
Trailers - Delta Farce, Reno 911: Miami, The Messengers
Film - Pretty darn awful attempt at comedy. Something that is written with no eye to continuity or anything resembling logic.
Grade - D
Smokin' Aces @ 5:20 - 60% full in 350-seater
Trailers - Hot Fuzz, Shooter, Grindhouse
Film - Entertaining action-comedy with more plot than one would expect based on the trailers.
Grade - B+
Pan's Labyrinth @ 7:30 - 80% in 275-seater
Trailers - El Cantante, Shooter, 300
Film - Bleak, disturbing tale of one girl and the imaginary world she creates to escape the horrid events of reality in a time of massive bloodshed and pain. Visually amazing and continually interesting. I wanted to see more of th evil white creature with "eye-hands" though. That thing was great.
Grade - B+
Catch and Release @ 10:00 - 5 people in 275-seater
Trailers - I Think I Love My Wife, Daddy's Little Girls, Perfect Stranger
Film - Decent romantic dramedy with a good lead performance by Garner and surprisingly humorous turn by Kevin Smith in a supporting role.
Grade - B

Lakewood Regal 15
Theater Size: 275 seats
Showing: 10:10
Capacity: Sold out
Trailers: Hot Fuzz, GhostRider, Dead Silence
Crowd: Mostly young folk, lots of males and females in the 18-25 range. We are close to a military base, so that might skew the audience. Crowd clapped/got excited at all the right points. Entertaining movie just for the simple fact that a whole lotta shit get blown up.
Grade: B-

Catch and Release
2:15 show, 300-seat theater, actually pretty crowded (maybe about 60% full)
Trailers
Daddy's Little Girls
Music and Lyrics
I Think I Love My Wife
Perfect Stranger
Premonition
Movie
Fairly workmanlike and predictable, but well-crafted, nonetheless. Jennifer Garner is quite good here. Nowhere near as effective as Susannah Grant's most memorable screenplays (Erin Brockovich and In Her Shoes), but the film ends up being decent entertainment. B-
