Is Jamie Foxx expected to pull in an "urban" audience? Anyone have a theater in an area like that?

I see 3 midnights in southern OC, and I assume both notfabio and Scott have one.

My theater has 23 pre-sales for Miami Vice tomorrow night. That's about 5 more than Collateral had. It doesn't sound like much, but it's pretty solid. Our veteran theater manager expects little from Ant Bully, which is really not news at this point.

Do you know how MV's pre-sales compare with movies like V for Vendetta, Underworld: Evolution, and Jarhead?

Arclight always has midnight showings for every new movie.

I lied...none of the movies are actually SOLD OUT. Movietickets.com shows them as unavailable, but tickets were still available for all Arclight Midnight showings when I checked the Arclight site.

Whew. That's a relief. The idea of a midnight showing of John Tucker Must Die selling out is almost too much to bear.

I don't think it would mean much even if it eventually does sell out tonight at the Arclight, considering it is only 1 of 2 midnight showings in SoCal, the ONLY showing of it in the Hollywood/Los Angeles area.

No midnight reports huh? Guess that's a pretty bad sign, although I don't think Collateral did little to anything at midnight a couple years ago.

Not sure if Fandango is just acting up but the theater I plan on going to tonight has an 8:30 show crossed off. I wouldn't be surprised with a lot of sellouts down here though since this is South Florida.

Florida and New York were 3x the average for pre-open business last night so it probably is legitimately sold out.

Miami Vice only at this point:

Vice is sluggish, off 15-20% from similar Collateral shows and slightly ahead of Jarhead, which DP07 pointed out is a good comparison. Pre-sales are comparitvely weak, and it's probably a safe projection to say that this won't be a $30M opener.

John Tucker Must Die
11:35 AM showing
10 people in a 150-seater

Trailers:
Beerfest - looks retarded
Flicka - looks retarded
Night at the Museum - awesome trailer

The Movie:
A reallly funny first hour, just not the best original character it could've had. Everything we mostly seen before, but the leads are still very charming and are fun to watch. The ending isn't as bad as some make it out to be, it's just not fantastic.

Grade: B/B-

I read a report on another movie board; the person saw Miami Vice and there were quite a few walk outs during the film. I expected it to be bad, just not THAT bad.

Miami Vice
12:35 @ Century Union Landing
Around 30% full in a 150-seater

Trailers:
Departed - Not bad, but not the best fall has to offer
WTC - Same one thats been out forever
De Ja Vu - Still think it looks decent
Borat - Still think it looks funny as hell

The Movie:

Ya know, I really just wanna give it a big F for being so damn dissapointing, but it really isnt that bad of a film, I just had my hopes too high and why wouldnt I? It had a solid cast with one of the best directors out there. I cant imagine that this film at one point was over 150min, even for a 2hr running time it felt too long, I had to wait 100min for the film to actually go into second gear, movie really felt like a very long first act that skipped the second and went straight to third. It felt like almost everyone was practically sleep walking through the roles, very one tone film. I really expected the film to be much more flashy. The digital look though, I really can do without, sometime the film got INCREDIBLY grainy looking, but other times ( when there was plenty of light in the scene ) it looked very good. I really dont know where that HUGE budget went.

It still had it's redeeming moments, some really great scenes, the beginning was pretty awsome how Mann just put us straight into the middle of things, alot of good shots, when there was action ( which there was VERY little of ) it was decent, and the film always had a consistent pace.

Gotta give it a C+

Very dissapointing but had it's moments.

I doubt it was made up because it's a small movie board, and I know the person :P.

If POTC 2 takes this weekend, it will be the first movie since T2 that took four weekends in July.
