Heh. I like the reactions in this thread.
Guys, it's still making $400 million total. And it's guaranteed to make more than Spider-Man 2. It'll have to drop 55% every weekend for its entire run to not make it.

I admire you, but I just can't believe what you think.
Spidey 2 made 71 million after its 3rd weekend. Pirates 3rd weekend will only be about 3-4 million higher than Spidey's 3rd weekend. Spidey had 9 of its next 10 weekends with under 40% drops. I think its safe to say that although Pirates will have about a 13 million lead on Spidey 2 this weekend. It won't make more than 70 million. I think the WOM and Competition will make it more around 55-65 million. They will be close when all is said and done. Even if Pirates performed the same as Spidey from here on out, though unlikely, your looking at a 387 million total. I think 400M is getting further and further everyday at this point, in another 5 days it will be gone for most.

You're just throwing out numbers ("yeah, well, it'll make like 8 here and 5 here and 2 there...") and not calculating.
Assuming it's at $6.5 million today...
Friday: $9.4 million (+45%)
Saturday: $12.2 million (+30%)
Sunday: $9.3 million (-24%)
That's a $30.9 million weekend, and the multiplier might be even better than that because of the openers hurting the holdovers' Friday numbers. That's a 50% drop from last weekend. It's going to make about $28.5 million from dailies this week, so let's just say that the overall week drop is 50% for the rest of the run (and by saying this, we're saying that it'll never ever level off, it'll just keep dropping hard, despite having a strong family appeal...). This is how it'll look:
Total as of Thursday, July 20: $286.8 million
Week 3: $45.3 million (-50%)
Week 4: $22.7 million (-50%)
Week 5: $11.3 million (-50%)
Week 6: $5.7 million (-50%)
Week 7: $2.8 million (-50%)
Total After 7 Weeks: $374.6 million
And after the seventh week, it would still make enough to pass $380 million, thus passing Spider-Man 2, Revenge of the Sith, Return of the King, etc. And we're talking about a run where a family film never levels off. And, not to mention that it'll have a nice hold on Labor Day weekend, too. It's a bit, well, dumb to think it won't make at the very least $390 million total. I don't think you could possibly justify why it'll drop 50% every week for its entire run.

Day to Day, Pirates will have about a 32 million day lead on SPidey 2 after Sundays numbers. Youre counting in the extra Wed and Thursday before opening weekend. Spidey 2 was at 284.6 on day 17, Pirates will be around 316 ish.

x3 wasnt as family friendly plus WOM was lackluster. Anyways I think the point he was trying to make was even with 50% weekly drops the rest of its run it still passes SIth.

That was *ahem* sarcasm.
Seriously, even with a 50% drop from its 2nd week and 45% after that, the total will be tad close to $390 million. I just can't see how it could fall short of $400 million.

When you look at this exact Wednesday for the past 3 years, the drops were humongous.

Why do many think the 13% drop on a Wednesday for a big movie is bad? It's average.
Tuesday numbers are often a bit inflated for whatever reason, thus the bigger drops on
Wednesday are normal. I won't be concerned for it's weekend passing 30M unless it drops
below 6M on Thursday.

SM2 Compared to POTC2
Opening Day SM2 did 72% of POTC2
Opening Weekend SM2 did 65% of POTC2
2nd Weekend SM2 did 72% of POTC2
2nd Monday SM2 did 73% of POTC2
2nd Tuesday SM2 did 73% of POTC2
2nd Wednesday SM2 did 78% of POTC2
Day 11 SM2 did 91% of POTC2
Day 13 SM2 did 93.5% of POTC2
The Day 13 total is a bit out of whack, because of SM2 having the benefit of the Fourth of July and the differences in opening day. If it keeps up this pace POTC2 is looking at low 9m Friday.
