Even if the midnight shows don't sell out, that would translate to a lot of people turned away Friday night, so I would put them up. Da Vinci Code is going to be hard pressed to find a HUGE amount of screens because I'm sure theater owners are still under contract (at least the big ones) to keep MI3 and Poseidon on multiple numbers of screens. I'm really really worried about this. Hopefully they find a nice balance of big screens between Da Vinci and Over the Hedge. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I can't think of any film that has added pre-opens later than the Tuesday of the opening week and nothing comes to mind of any that added them the week of.
This is usually true, though I think we've had some last-minute adds on Wednesday before (I think for When a Stranger Calls bleh), I should know by tomorrow (Tuesday) though, if we DO add a midnight.

Actually, we never sell this much advance tickets for an adult movie, they just come up and by tickets the day of release.

LBC just added another screen for TDVC to make it 6 total, and notfabio said the only other films to get 6 screens there since 1999 are Matrix Reloaded, Shrek 2, Revenge of the Sith, and The Goblet of Fire.

I accidentally put this in the predictions thread, though I suppose it's relevant there also. Anyway, my theater has 4 full screens for DVC this weekend. That's only been done one other time in recent memory, for Star Wars. Even Harry Potter and Spider-Man 2 only got 3. Either they know something we suspect (a huge open), or perhaps they are overestimating the hype, which is also possible. I can probably thank the Hoot tank job for freeing up a 4th screen.

Here is AMC Mercado 20 info:
The Da Vinci Code
Rated (PG-13) • 2 hrs. 29 min.
BUY TICKETS - 11:45am, 12:30pm, 1:00pm, 1:45pm, 2:15pm, 3:00pm, 4:00pm, 4:30pm, 4:30pm, 4:30pm, 5:15pm, 5:45pm, 6:30pm, 7:30pm, 7:30pm, 8:00pm, 8:00pm, 8:00pm, 8:45pm, 9:15pm, 9:15pm, 10:00pm, 10:45pm,
11:15pm, Midnight, 12:30am
All the bold shows are greyed out online. It may not mean soldouts as people have suggested, but two weeks ago when M:I3 was showing similar thing, but not other theaters, Mercado did end up selling out a great deal and was one of the top performers for the film. BTW, I haven't seen this many showings for a film at Mercado since Revenge of the Sith.

Holy cow. 17 shows sold out with 3 days left. This movie is looking bigger by the minute.

I suspected that it was better then most "adult" movies, but how is that campared to Harry Potter or Star Wars or LOTR? I'm sure its less, but just to get an idea.

Is there any indication DVC might crack 4000 theaters this weekend? Sony said "in about 4000" and the WW notes a little under 3900. Sony has to be aware how well many of the theaters are doing with advances sales, so I think 4000+ could very well be justified.

That's a lot of split screens among holdovers.

That AMC Mercado is just wild. What's the draw there? Why is it so popular?
The Orinda Theatre has sold 450 tickets for the Friday night show to a Church! They want to come see the movie so they can discuss it afterwards! Could this be a trend?

I really doubt See No Evil is in just 1,000 theaters this weekend. This is the first time I've seen a film like this, expected to be in less than 1,500 theaters, playing at both of my local theaters.
I've also never seen a planned interlock before. Usually, it's just a last minute addition at my theater.

It has always been the most popular theater in the area. It's most accessible, I guess, being so close to the main bay area highways and Great America.

Hmmm...this film is not quite like...Narnia.

I think it's really interesting that Churches are causing sell-outs, but really for an opposite reason than Narnia or Passion. In this case, they want to see the "atrocity" (according to them) for themselves to then discuss it.
With all of this news, I am tempted to go REALLY high on the film for opening weekend. Buzz, awareness, sell outs, screen counts, tracking, advertisement: ALL MASSIVE.
PEACE, Mike.

Not necessarily. I read that there are some church representatives and priests that actually thought that the ideas and issues raised in the book were highly interesting. Read that in an articles a while ago with some quotes.
