If Da Vinci opens to $100 million next weekend, then $300 million total is a lock. Memorial Day will increase its legs.

X3 is coming off of an $86 m predecessor, so its box office region for opening weekends is much more narrow than the Da Vinci Code to be a success. I would only consider a $70 m + opening a success for X3 especially since it has an inflated Sunday and three years of inflation, while I'd see a $50 m + opening for Da Vinci Code as a success (which would be #2 opening of the year), but of course I think it can do alot higher, but its an adult oriented film, and not fanboy driven to the level of X3, so Da Vinci Code has the advantage at this point...

If accurate, this bodes incredibly well for a near $100M opening, IMO. There is no doubt in my mind that we are looking at something huge this weekend.

Darling, I hate to break it to ya, but this movie is not going to make 100 Million in 3 days.. I don't know where all this supposed hype for this movie is coming from, but I haven't heard a Peep out of anyone even talking about it.. Maybe I'm in the wrong circle..

It's looking more and more like the weekend before Harry Potter 1 came out, so much BUZZ it's NOISY! But I won't be too hasty and will wait till the screen counts for my theater comes out in a few days, we don't even have a midnight show up yet for Thursday, though I think that will change

X-Men is #2 and Over The Hedge is #5. Good signs for all three. Kids
movies are almost never on this early in the week at any point, so I think some people
are really underpredicting OTH.

Quote: I'm told Sony is looking for a Da Vinci Code domestic opening weekend of $60 million-$70 million from about 3,600 theaters May 19-21, and expects the first 11 days including Memorial Weekend to gross $125 million from U.S. moviegoers. The studio figures to end the summer with an overall worldwide haul of $500 million. (I've already reported that, in Italy, Mexico and Spain, Catholic Moviegoers Overseas Defy Vatican and Sell Out Da Vinci Code In Advance.) I've learned that one thing worrying Sony is that, since The Da Vinci Code is primarily an adult movie, some of those adults may be siphoned off not by falling MI3, or flailing Poseidon but by Paramount/Dreamworks' counter-programming of its big animated flick Over the Hedge in 3,800 theaters that same weekend. (Mom and Dad gotta keep those kiddies entertained, right?) "If Over the Hedge performs as well as Dworks' Madagascar did, we may have to rely more on overseas sales," one Sony source fretted. Plus, 20th Century Fox's X-Men 3 opens over Memorial Weekend, and that's a proven franchise.
SONY
Wow. That is damn good for DVC, if Sony is expecting $60 to $70M opening weekend.

i sense some little problems. At my highschool a lot of people are trying to figure out should they see X-men 3 or da vinci code. Teenagers are more flocking to x-men 3 especially among boys, however there is quite some buzz for da vinci code as well.
Both will open well, but expect x-men 3 to get one powerful massive 4-day weekend. Also DVC will get a large weekend on the May 19-21 weekend, however its a Monday holiday in Canada so suspect a larger then expected monday.
Victoria day in Canada does have an effect on the boxoffice like on ROTS which fell only 16% on sunday and only 58% on Monday. It fell 31% the next day (tuesday).
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?pa ... rwars3.htm
Also like how Shrek 2 fell 30% after that Holiday on Monday.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/char ... -24&p=.htm
So expect a large monday and dont set off alarm bells if it falls huge on Tuesday.
We may have a small population but we do affect the boxoffice. We have every Dec,26th a Boxing day holiday.
In 2003, when Rotk opened on its 2nd Friday (dec,26th) it got a 19 million friday but it fell 10% on Saturday.

Realistic Predictions
Da Vinci: 44m
Hedge: 30m
Poseidon is definitely a lock for a 60% or more drop. It was wretchedly awful. I walked out of it.

No mention of SEE NO EVIL (even American Haunting ranked a mention on screen order for the weekend of the 5th)
