INTERNATIONAL - Opening Weekend
MI3 couldn't top last year's King Kong, which had similar saturation levels in its opening weekend.
Still, it's 2006's 2nd largest Intl. weekend behind Icea Age's $94.7m 2nd weekend. Not the blockbuster we thought.....will top out with $250m-275m Intl. for a worldwide gross around $400m.
Star Wars 3: ROTS - $145,534,793 (114/10489) – Wk. 1 Lord Of The Rings: ROTK - $126.8m (28/7403) – Wk. 1 The Matrix: Revolutions - $119,037,452 (80+/10013) – Wk. 1 Harry Potter 3: POA - $113.51m (24/7885) – Wk. 1 War Of The Worlds - $110,085,902 (79/9955) – Wk. 1 Lord Of The Rings: TTT - $99.8m (27/5400) – Wk. 1 Harry Potter 4: GOF - $85.5m (19/5300) – Wk. 1 The Day After Tomorrow - $85,384,957 (or $109.1m incl. GERMANY - Opening Week
Defying all expectations, MI3 bombed badly in Germany, failing to gross even half of MI1's first week takings. It's on par with Bourne Supremacy and well down all 007 pics headlined by Pierce Brosnan.

$7m would normally deliver a #1 opening on most weeks, but with Camping still hot in its sophomore session, Cruise had to settle for #2. The opening was the weakest of the 3 MI films and on par with Die Another Day.

Since the weather is supposed to get rainy over the weekend, M:I-3 is expected to drop only around 15-20%.

Just saw MI3 tonight in a 1500 seater at 9.30pm approx 80% full.
What a shame this isnt doing bigger business because its the best of the three films - i loved it. Havnt loved a straight action movie so much since the mid 90s and the days of Speed, True Lies and co.

I haven't seen any of the prior MI installments in cinemas, though i saw MI3 with some friends and it was a very thrilling ride.....one of the best action flicks i've seen for a while.
My friends were all going gaga over MaggieQ in that red dress LOL ...

TAIPEI (TWD$) - Opening Weekend
It was never going to match WOTW which opened on a Wednesday....though, still a very impressive 3-Day gross - it's the 7th movie to gross more than 50m TWD in Taipei on opening.
It must be said though that compared to some other movies which opened in the same vicinity, MI3's 2-Day gross was quite ordinary.....suggesting that it did huge business on opening day but couldn't sustain those levels through Sat and Sun.
Should be interesting to see how hard it falls this weekend.

BELGIUM - Opening Weekend
Equalling the opening of The Last Samurai, though couldn't match the recent bond flicks. It's theatre count of 94, is one of the largest of All-Time.

Yeah, looks like a 20% drop is in store in Germany. That'd be great normally, but considering the lame opening...

LOL, it's tough crawling back from a $3m start....wish it all the best of luck.....i doubt it can even reach the dissapointing totals of Narnia, King Kong and WOTW there....
BTW - Dr. Lecter, any big local movies coming out this year ?

Yeah, Hui Buh. It's a family flick, mixes live action with animation. A bit similar to Casper actually, about a ghost in a castle. The ghost is voiced by the main star (and director) of (T)Raumschiff Surprise and Schuh des Manitu and the film also stars many members of the cast of those two films. It is a programmed success. I suppose 6,000,000+ admissions assured, probably more.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0428646/
Then this flick: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0466149/
Based on a popular books series about four young detectives.

Not bad, could potentially make for a double hitter in the same veins as 2004's tripple hitter (T)Raumschiff, Der Untergang and 7 Zwerge....
...i guess the 2nd half of 2006 really needs something.......nothing really interests me at the momment besides Casino Royale...

THE PERFUME and 7 ZWERGE 2 should be big too. Unfortunately, another would-be-blockbuster called SPECIAL was delayed til next year...

Ahhh, I completely forgot that that crapfest 7 Zwerge 2 is coming out. Yeah, it is assured a 4,000,000+ admissions performance.
The Perfume doesn't count, in my opinion, just like the Astreix films didn't. It is definitely an international production.

Well, THE PERFUME got a German director, a German producer, is based on a German language book by a German author and is financed by German money - sounds pretty German to me...

As a half german i'm ashamed of the movie going habit of fellow germans. It seems as if all they care about nowadays are stupid local comedies...

It is not financed exclusively by German money, it is shot in English (my main factor) and it stars an international cast. To me, it's like calling The Good, The Bad and The Ugly foreign (Italian) films..I don't consider them such.

Quote: After 10 days, the total for "Mission: Impossible III" stands at $84.6 million. Its drop from last weekend was a modest 49 percent. Most big films usually drop between 50 percent and 60 percent in their second weekends.
The spy thriller also held up well overseas, where the total rose to $129.2 million.
Yahoo
MI:3 was at $93M as of Thursday. It made $36M+ in its second weekend. That is a good hold since the first week had additional days at several markets. This may get close to $200M without Japan.

From hollywoodreporter:
Internationally, "Mission: Impossible III" raked in another $70 million to bring its two-week earnings overall to $214 million.
Sounds very good! 400m worldwide is coming!

I think that $70M for the second weekend includes domestic numbers also.
OS: 129.2 Dom: 84.6 Total: 214.8

Looks like $390 million worldiwde as its final gross to me. Very respectable. Japan should churn out $50+ million.

Yep, it may stand at 130m overseas now. That 70m includes intl. weekdays, too. I don't know exactly, but it may grossed 40m this weekend. Very nice! It is very important to reach 50m in Japan , because DVC will destroy every movie next week, opening around 200m worldwide.

Alfred: I agree with Dr. Lecter's WW total and your assesment of DVC's impact. Without DVC, MI:3 would have gotten to $225M+ without Japan.
