I think it has a chance to pass 200 million by the end of the holidays

Make that 270m. Even Sith might not be safe if this thing has an Oscar run. WOM might just be too strong among mainstream audiences (aka non-GG voters) for it not to get a best pic nom.

It needs to successfully cross two thresholds to have a successful run:
1) First, it needs to make it through the first few days, jumping into the holidays season and its fortnight of big daily grosses. That, for all intents and purposes, is a done deal. The 10m people who've seen it so far have begun spreading the word.
2) It needs to get out of the holiday season with enough stamina in order to make it through January and February, and preferrably March as well. In order to do that, it needs either continued great WOM (although I think the holidays will absorb as many of those who want to see it as can be hand, given that they have the time to watch a 3hr film), repeat viewings ensuring a more steady decline from week to week, or, preferrably, the Oscars and the huge publcity that comes with it.
1) guarantees $200m+; anything approaching $300m will require 2)'s threshold to be crossed.

If Kong does manage to secure the major nominations at the Oscars like many still suspect, then I think it will be quite a nice push for the film's box office. The Oscars should have more of an effect on King Kong, then the Lord of the Rings films in my opinion, being that King Kong has opened smaller and with less "fanboyism" and there are probably those still sceptical towards it.
As long as King Kong receives a PGA nomination, I'm pretty confident it will receive the Oscar nom too at this point.
PEACE, Mike.

The One still holds true to His 335m prediction...however something like 280m is quite likely too (and this would still be an excellent figure to achieve)

It's got 200m. I just wonder whether it can reach 250m.

That, it shall do, but it will take time.
If this gets a Best Picture nom, then it will make $250+ million.
