 Re: Derby Game Discussion Thread
Congrats Omni/Corpse! A dominating win.
Can't believe I got a 3th place out of that score.

 Re: Derby Game Discussion Thread
Despite my pathetic score, I got 16th place. I am now in 3rd place in the yearly chart now, but not by much (don't worry Ericka, I still like you).

 Re: Derby Game Discussion Thread
The back and forth between the Top 4/5 or so is exciting. I hope it stays that way up until the very last week.

The Christmas Weeks will definetely be all over the place, with scores even as low as 50's with expert predictors. If one breaks out, then the game is decided by that.

 Re: Derby Game Discussion Thread
This weekends results is going to make the Top 5 yearly the closest it's ever been so far I think.
Everyone will be .20% (60 pts) or so from each other. Crazy after 37 weeks.
Congrats Levy.
75/76 this week.

 Re: Derby Game Discussion Thread
Actually, I was very surprised you didn't, as your score was head and shoulders over ours. A top 10 finish in a weekend like this is damn good though

 Re: Derby Game Discussion Thread
© The Derby MiniMax Theoremvariables: Min = minimum prediction Max = maximum prediction MiniMax = average prediction that allows you to score the same if Min or Max will happen formula: MiniMax = 2 * Min * Max / ( Min + Max ) ---- example: Min = 3m Max = 7m MiniMax = 2 * 3m * 7m / ( 3m + 7m ) = 4.2m with 4.2m as your prediction, you'll score 60% at the Derby if 3m will happen, or you'll score 60% if 7m will happen ---- as you can see, the MiniMax is different from the simple average: average = ( 3m + 7m ) / 2 = 5m with 5m as your prediction, you'll score a terrible 33.3% if 3m will happen, or you'll score 71.4% if 7m will happen ---- Corollary of ©The Derby MiniMax Theorem: If you predict 3m, and then the movie get 6m, your score will be 50% If you predict 6m, and then the movie get 3m, your score will be 0% ---- Murphy's Law applied to the Corollary of ©The Derby MiniMax Theorem: If you predict 3m, the movie will get 6m If you predict 6m, the movie will get 3m ---- for further reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimaxhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murphy%27s_law
