2.8B for sure. I see the next 2 weeks being dramatic and really weird in its run
2.56B(10% drop with a slight increase domestically),
2.62B(Alice Week around 39% drop could be less since Alice is not opening everywhere)

Once again Avatar flew higher than the competition and continued to break records as the extraordinary run showed little sign of slowing down in its tenth weekend.

Quote:
An estimated $51m haul from 7,600 screens in 71 markets through Fox International pushed the running total to $1.78bn. James Cameron’s space opera became the biggest release in history in Mexico, where $608,049 from 380 raised the tally to $42.5m and dislodged Fox’s Ice Age 3 from its perch.

Minimal drops all round delivered another sterling weekend, with France and China neck-and-neck in the contest for biggest overseas territory. France leads by a whisker thanks to a further $6.3m from 529 that elevated the running total to $165.1m after ten weekends. China added $3.6m from 792 for $164.4m after seven.

Elsewhere Avatar added $5.7m in Germany from 544 for $134m, $4.6m in the UK from 408 for $134.9m, $4.6m in Japan from 529 for $131.9m after nine weekends, and $4.3m in Italy from 486 for $85.7m after six. Australia is on the cusp of $100m after $1.4m from 254 raised the tally to $95.4m.

Combined with the $687.8m North American tally, Avatar’s global cumulative total currently stadns at $2.47bn.

WOW, that's a fantastic drop, hardly anything at all. It's mind blowing that it's still continuing to gross this well in the major markets. Italy looks primed for $100m and Australia is right on it.

The Chinese New Year effect it seems, are they back to work next week?

Last sunday BOM had $1,684,000,000 for foreign, so a plus of $91m. It made about $105m the week before. -13% week-to-week drop.

$2.5billion by the start of next weekend. :funny: This is stabilising dramatically and will definately receive another strong hold in another 2 weeks or so when the Academy Awards airs.

Strange, cause Shutter Island didn't really have a strong opening here and was probably beaten by Valentine's Day's 2nd week.

It had a good hold. That also means it beats Mamma Mia as the biggest USD grosser in UK.

What did Mamma Mia gross again in pounds?

At this stage, definaetly $2.8billion with $2.9m a possibility. They need to boost it or keep it showing for ages if it is to reach $3billion.

I heard that they are releasing Avatar on DVD by April 22nd. If that happens there is no chance that they will make that mark

That will be interesting to watch...
Even with the DVD release the only way to watch AVATAR in 3D will still be the movie theater...

I wouldn't be so sure. Alice is in deep shit in many countries because of Disney and that will leave room for Avatar to make money.

Also I don't think that Alice will open as big as Avatar in all Overseas markets. There could be a chance that if WOM is not very good then it will take a week or two weeks for it to steal that number 1 position from Avatar which by then will be very close to 2.8M

Alice to me looks like a Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. It will do well overseas but not mind blowing huge, it will do quite well in Europe for sure.

But CATCF did not have the 3D advantage and also the story was not world famous. Alice however is a well known name worldwide and thus may draw a huge crowd initially

I thought Avatar woudl've beaten Shrek 3 by now in admissions. Looks like there's still a bit to go with.

Shrek 4 has a chance to top them i think 3D will help.m

I wouldn't count it out yet but the admissions are falling comparatively and I think Shreak4 will not be any different. Actually with 3D I am thinking the admissions might go even lower because then lot of people in certain areas might prefer DVD over the extra ticket price

Well difference between Shrek 2 and 3 is just 50k adm. And as for 3D kids movies Ice Age 3 barely beat Ice Age 2 and that was unexpected after poor second part. So kids franchises hold strong in Poland I can't see less than 3 milion adm for Shrek 4 atm.

Conditions now are much better than when Shrek 3 opened. Also 3D now is more popular then when Ice Age 3 played, thanks to Avatar.
