Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule
Both NATM2 and Ice Age 3 both really underwhelm me. I doubt either will pass $200m really.
Kind of good and bad news re: Avatar. Longer wait but thats exactly what happened to Titanic. That movie moved from July 4th (against MIB) to the "Titanic" spot which has become and event weekend since (LOTR, Kong etc).
Maybe Monsters Vs Aliens will move back to the Summer now. Likewise looks like there will be an opening for Justice League. Im hoping Prince of Persia still makes it as the summer will need a potential Pirates type franchise. Wolverine should be solid - but really thank God for Transformers 2. Its going to run away with the summer crown.

Did anyone read in the Variety article that Reese Witherspoon has been approached to play Amelia Earhart in Night at the Museum 2? That would be a casting coup if it happens.

I doubt many people care, but Postal has been moved from February 1 to N/A. Looks like we'll have to wait quite a bit longer for the greatest bad movie of all time to hit theaters. Damn Freestyle...damn them.

Maybe its a good sign for the studio's confidence in Valkyrie's Oscar chances.

Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule
Nah i don't want this to release in december. Let it burn and crash since i despise bryan singer.
Also maybe they should release it same time as The Departed or American Gangster.
December already has a will smith movie and the day the eart stood still which i think has potential to do well. Only problem is that both will smith movie and that release on same day. Hopefully will smith movie is of some other genre like comedy or drama.

Yes, December 5 would be perfect. It can get a solid opening, and as Last Samurai showed, have very nice legs even if it isn't a huge Oscar contender.

prob. is they just released the trailer; can they afford to have their trailer out 14 months before it opens? Nope.

Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule
I kind of liked the original August date really. But yeah December 5 is better for it. But if it stays in October it should atleast distance itself from Body of Lies by more than 2 weeks.

Is the Hollywood trade paper correct? Perhaps the writers strike is having an affect on the script? Hopefully we'll find out soon. This is not good news for summer 2009 at all. Transformers is a guranteed 350m+ film. You just can't replace that if it isn't there. Yeah with no Transformers 2 and Avatar moving to December - summer 09 would be dismal both BO wise and quality wise. Ice Age 2 and A Night at the Musuem 2 dont excite at all. Wolverine is highly anticipated but wont do better than X2 and Justice League could be one royal mess. Angels and Demons - even if its as big as DVC would barely be above $200m. "Up" looks like Pixar's hardest sell yet and could be Pixar's lowest ever grosser. The only film that could sleeper and do a POTC would be Prince of Persia but even that is not guaranteed for 09. Offcourse more films will move in but with the strike I dont think we'll have the arsenal of blockbusters that most recent summers have had. So no Transformers 2 could mean a Summer 1995 or 2000 scenario where the highest grossers are in the $170-$220m range.

IA3 could do between $170-210 million depending if its legs are good on digital 3d. NATM 2 could do very well if fox markets it well and gives it imax release. 80% of people who i know and watched NATM liked it. Personally i didn't.

Transformers 2 would be guaranteed to far outgross Ice Age 3 and NATM 2. Whenever it's out, it will be the event movie of its year. Outside of the big three, Trasnformers itself pretty much was the event film of 2007.
And yes, summer 2009 is looking pretty weak. Damn writers' strike.

Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule
hmm.... Quote: Katherine Heigl vs. the Cloverfield Monster Source: 20th Century Fox January 3, 2008
In what appears to be a case of last-minute counterprogramming, 20th Century Fox has moved back the Katherine Heigl romantic comedy 27 Dresses a week from Jan. 11 to Jan. 18, where it will now face the J.J. Abrams-produced monster movie Cloverfield. The only other wide release that day is Overture's Mad Money.
Regardless how the match-up plays out, the movies will enjoy a four-day weekend due to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 21st. I guess they ran from Juno....

Well considering timeshifts usually hurt movies more than they do in helping(Im speaking about date shifts in a 1-3 week span). It surely didnt help Shooter. You can probably watch Cloverfield kill 23 Dresses if Cloverfield does open over 30 million. Surely people cant stomach to watch another movie so soon after the motion sickness

And, for the record, I'm not sure this move is so horrible. Women will want to see Cloverfield, yes, but not in some vast amount, I'm guessing. It's not like the marketplace can't expand to accomodate two movies. Plus, the movie gets a 4-day opening weekend now. And Mad Money is apparently likely to get moved, according to notfabio, so that wouldn't be a factor.

And Mad Money is apparently likely to get moved, according to notfabio, so that wouldn't be a factor. The film doesn't really help its opening weekend I think. Even though it gets MLK boost, it has tougher competition now. So it really is moot. To me, the move just hurts it legs. With original date, it would be getting holiday boost in 2nd weekend, plus it would have been farther from Febuary, which is just full of relases that the film will have a hard time devleoping any legs in the month. I still think it can do really well (rom-coms have done fairly well in January. Look at Just Married and Along Came Polly), but I think that it had a better shot of legs with its original release date. But then again, this is a Fox film, so any shit can happend. The January 11 date is actually pretty crowded. Not with anything that directly competes with 27 Dresses, per se, but there will be at least four other new movies coming out. It's been sort of a trend lately that no film opening on a weekend where 385532895 other movies come out seems to really break out or anything. I actually think the biggest reason Fox moved this was to give Juno more room, especially considering its their own film. The two do share some significant audience overlap, probably.

Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule
Ok then - Both Juno and Bucket List will probably be above $15m that week and probably low to mid teens for NT2 and Alvin - so not a bad choice to move back for 27 D.

Journey 3-D is set for July 11th according to CS. That's actually a good spot I feel. There are no family films opening that weekend, so Journey 3-D can benefit from that. And with digital 3-D ticket prices, the film can do fairly well. Ya i saw that. If i am not mistaken then isn't that the release date of hellboy 2?? Oh and this movie will flop.
