Re: COMICS 2011 (INTL.) - X-MEN: First Class
It's kinda funny that X-Men: First Class made $2.1 million in its third weekend in South Korea, but Green Lantern didn't even break $1 million there opening weekend. Really doesn't bode well for that film's overseas prospects since it sure as hell won't be very big in Europe. Might just barely cross $100 million overseas.

Re: COMICS 2011 (INTL.) - X-MEN: First Class
Yeah indeed, if there was ever a market for Green Lantern it would be Asia and possibly South America. I don't see it doing any better than X-Men in Europe, and definately not at Thor levels.

X-Men did get a excellent WOM (It was No.1 for 3rd weekend's friday) while Green Lantern didn't generate much buzz in here. GL didn't even have a 3D showing (almost). Not surprising since anyone in here knows about GL. It will likely to end its run next week. And watch FC to break $15m and come closer to $20m.

It's definately holding better than X-Men Origins that's for sure.

Re: COMICS 2011 (INTL.) - X-MEN: First Class / Green Lantern
The competition ahead is going to be huge...this weekend GL released in only 17 markets so the impact wasn't huge, next weekend it can drop to 50% and about $10m weekend. The only good thing is that it is not in 3D or IMAX so it is safe from those huge decreases.

Re: COMICS 2011 (INTL.) - X-MEN: First Class / Green Lantern
X-Men: First Class dropped 40.7% in its third weekend in Holland, earning €143,770 for an unimpressive €1,066,325 total. Its drop might not seem terrible, but it is when you take into consideration that it was the worst drop in the entire top 20. Kung Fu Panda was the only major opener, but somehow that didn't really hit the films you'd expect it to hit. POTC: On Stranger Tides only lost 1 screen and dropped 33.5%, while Rio lost 3 screens and INCREASED by 38.9%. http://www.filmdistributeurs.nl/files/1 ... eekend.pdfI am starting to become disappointed in X-Men: First Class's performance here in the Netherlands in addition to its US and international performance. It was just so damn entertaining, it's a shame such a good film isn't making more money.

Re: COMICS 2011 (INTL.) - X-MEN: First Class / Green Lantern
I someone also doubt that the sequel will expreience an X2 style increase. Perhaps the franchise needs to go away for 3-4 years for audiences to really miss the themes and characters.
Or they could do X4 and bring back the big characters....though hard to see that unless they discount what happened in X3 when seemingly killed 3 main characters in the form of Cyclops, Jean and Professor X and rendered at least two paralysed for a time being, Magneto and Rogue.

They shouldn't do X4. It will cost like 270+m to make, which will be hard to recover domestically.

Re: COMICS 2011 (INTL.) - X-MEN: First Class / Green Lantern
If it were up to me, there would just be a complete reboot somewhere in the future, maybe in about 5 years or so. It could be more like the first X-Men film or the early 90's animated series with new characters being introduced into an already established team of X-Men. I think the appeal of that would be greater than that of First Class, a possible sequel to First Class or a reboot with First Class's 'the beginning of the X-Men' approach.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adored First Class, but a new trilogy based on it will always be limited somehow by what was established in the first trilogy.

I think the next two can really open possibilities if they introduce some really big villains and amp up the special effects. It should work its way back to where X1 was in terms of timeline... X4 i want to see but i know it's going to be hard.

SINGAPORE:
Green Lantern - Opening Weekend
Solid opening on the back of strong openings from the likes of Kung Fu Panda 2 and X-Men.
Spiderman 3 - $2,632,049 Pirates Of The Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides - $2,123,292 (100) Iron Man - $1,965,910 (or $1,544,008 4-Day - 64) Iron Man 2 - $1,883,741 (79) Thor - $1,725,288 (70) X-Men: First Class - $1,724,673 (70) The Dark Knight - $1,538,640 (68) Spiderman 2 - $1,471,703 (58) X-Men Origins: Wolverine - $1,462,183 (or $1,283,453 4-Day - 61) Fast Five - $1,411,648 (or $1,080,617 4-Day without p/v - 40) X-Men 3: The Last Stand - $1.4m (75) Green Lantern - $1,373,577 (69) Fantastic Four 2: Rise Of The Silver Surfer - $1,341,532 (79) Spiderman - $1.2m (52) Superman Returns - $1.2m (208,646 adms. - 73)

$184.4 million overseas for X-Men: First Class, coming off a $12+ million weekend. $200+ million is assured as is $350+ million worldwide, I'd say.

It is doing great, given the competition, still $350m might be a crawl and it might eventually miss that mark. $200m OS is a given, though for $350m it will have to rely solely on OS grosses, Domestic run might fetch another $10m-$15m.

I somehow thought X-Men's WW total is $305m, but it is $317m. Given it will pass $200m OS total and add another $10m from domestic, I am sure it will cross $350m WW total now.

It'll finish just above $200m which will give it the #2 spot for the franchise behind X3.

Re: COMICS 2011 (INTL.) - X-MEN: First Class / Green Lantern
Thank goodness for Australia/Asia. It really saved X-Men: First Class overseas.
Speaking of X-Men, it is very close to 3.2m after this weekend in Hong Kong. ($3,188,322) It will cross 3.2m today.
Green Lantern - $1,325,900. It won't make it to 1.5m which means it can be classified as a bomb here. 1.5m would be about equal to 100m in N.America.

It's still below $14m after making a just under $900k the previous weekend, even with the school holidays coming up i think it will suffer a heavy blow from Transformers 3 this coming weekend, it will loose screens very quickly. X-Men Wolverine made $18,575,441 in Aussie dollars.....i see First Class up to $17m max only. It still needs to pass the following... X3 - 16,593,952 X2 - 16,444,180 Though It has already surpassed.... X1 - 11,084,756
