That's an interesting statement for him to make. I don't know how fast those films sold out here (city of 100Kish with several surrounding towns in the 20-40K range that go to this theater), but Sith sold out the Ultrascreen midnight show here in it's first 30 minutes. TDK hasn't sold out yet and the tickets have been on sale for over a week.

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
Fox and Universal are really going to pay for putting movies up against this...not that theyll bomb, but the insane presales will force theaters to give tdk as many screens as possible. A 5th screen for tdk will go before a 2nd one goes for mm or sc. I just hope we get shit like this:

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
I just saw at fandango that couple of theaters in NY have added 16th july(midnight shows). I would be seriously pissed if WB pulls in the release date to wednesday. All the expectations for record goes out of the window.

They're previews done by the theaters themselves.

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
These sellouts might be all for IMAX theaters which is nice, but I'm looking at Chicago and NYC on Fandango and there are tickets available for almost all showings that I clicked on. Sex and the City was definitely more sold out at the same point on regular screens.
I'm not suggesting that TDK is not doing stupendously, but I think the $60M OD predictions are a little insance.

There are only 84 Imax midnight showings. Fabios theater is conventional theaters.

After reading that I definitely have to go get my tickets tomorrow.

Do it
Just found out TDK comes out on Wednesday here (which will be Tuesday in North America) Now I want to see it on Wednesday night!
World Golf Hall of Fame & IMAX Theater (St. Augustine) Thursday - 12:01am Friday - 7:30 | 10:20
The only IMAX midnight shows that haven't sold out are at the Muvico Baywalk 20 in St. Petersburg and the Muvico Parisian 20 in West Palm Beach (that's my "home theater," but the IMAX auditorium was converted from a regular one and the seating sucks, so I'll be doing a regular show at midnight and then I'll catch it at the IMAX in Orlando on a repeat viewing).

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
Well it took a little longer than I thought, but we just sold out our first midnight show here at the Gateway 16 in Austin, TX. The main reason why we sold out so late was because we put 4 midnight shows up for sale at the same time, so I wouldn't be suprised if another one or two of the midnight shows sell out later today. We are waiting for the bookings to be confirmed before putting up our 5th and 6th midnight shows. We've already sold a few dozen to the 1am show and a few to the 2 and 3am shows. Along with the special group showing at 7:00pm, it's going to be madness at my theater THU night
