The succuess of shows like Heroes, Lost, Battle Sta Galatica are reasons why Star Trek will do well. Sci-fi is back in popular culture now. ST will attract more peope than your sterotypical Trekkie, who by the way will be at full force when this comes out.

Heroes and Lost arent pure sci-fi shows. BSG still only appeals to a niche group. Its ratings are great for a cable show and sci-fi network but I dont consider it to be that popular. Dont forget that the last Star Trek show was just cancelled 4 years ago during the peak of Stargate.

Granted, it's not going to be HUGE, but I think it has 100m+ potential if marketing is good and WOM is solid. People must remember that 100m now isn't 100m from before. Hell, Evan Almighty got 100m, and I don't think anyone would call that a big film.

That probably could be true although there really isnt a whole lot of 100 million hits this year compared to a year before

I'm not trying to argue that ST will be huge, but it will do well.[/quote]

A couple of noteworthy additions for horror fans:

Scanners (2008) MGM 10/17/08 New
Trailer Trash MGM 8/22/08 New

Scanners is, of course, Saw II/III/IV director Darren Lynn Bousman's remake of the David Cronenberg film, and unless there is another film coming out with the same title, Trailer Trash is Eli Roth's spinoff of Grindhouse that is composed entirely of fake movie trailers.

EDIT: The Kite Runner has also been pushed back from November 2 to December 14.

kite runner will die horrible death.

Original scanners was awesome and a remake cannot beat it.

Trailer trash will be fun.

Good date for Land of the Lost. Heard about the project a while back. Don't think it has that much potential really. The TV show kind of was stupid.

what is this about?

The title is intriguing.

I bet when hollywood finalize their release dates for all their big sfx extravaganzas like TF2, DBZ, IA3, POP etc. then these small movies will move.

The "Land of the Lost" TV series followed the adventures of the Marshall family. Dad Rick and his kids Will and Holly were transported back in time while rafting down the Colorado River. The Marshall's had to fight off dinosaurs, the deadly Sleestak, and made friends with Chaka the little monkey boy. You seriously could not have asked for a campier TV series, and the idea of making a movie based on the show has been kicked around for years.

Apparently Harold&Kumar 2 got a release date a while ago, but I never realized it did:

Harold and Kumar II - April 4th, 2008

Guess that's a good release date for it. The film I think has a good amount of potential. The first one is a cult hilt, and R-rated comedies are much more succuessful now than they were back in 2004 (though the recent dissapointment of HBK may prove otherwise). I think the film will do 50m+ maybe even more. It's OW alone I think can be 20m+ due to massive frontloading.

I hope so. Though I think a bunch of us thought the first one would do more than $50m too. It was one of two R rated films that should have been $70m+ contenders - it and Girl Next Door.

But the 2nd has certainly built up a cult following so it should do at worst Clerks II numbers but hopefully $50m+

From my man in W.B.-

"It is all set in stone. Their film Justice League will be out day-and-date on May 15th. T4 will be out July 1st. An announcement is not currently scheduled but it will announced by I would say Mid-November at latest."

So Pencil it in:

Justice League: May 15th
Terminator 4: July 1st

Intesting; JL is the same date W.B. opened MATIRX RELOADED on in 2003; and Terminator is headed back to July 4th ala T2 and T3.

Transformers will totally kill T4. T4 is a decade too long too late already and the budget will probably exceed 150 million so I cant really see them making their budget back before dvd

Both dates are probable, but I still don't trust your "source."

Though honestly, JLA may want to go with the summer start. I have a feeling WB is going to make that a film people rush on OW rather than see in the long-run. Plus, Avatar in its 2nd weekend isn't good even with Memorial Day. I say they should go with summer start. It's guranteed 100m+ OW there I think almost.

Perhaps...hes been saying May 15th since before Setember; though Avatar is hardly big competition. It would be neck and neck for the 4 day. If Avatars big itll be through legs; nbto opening weekend. No fanbase+no stars=no hype. Best case scenario would be a 75 million 4 day, which given the source material doesnt sound likely. I see 115 million 3 day for JL followed by a 60 million 4 day...Avatar aruond 60-65.

as for T4; it might be a filler. I mean Paramounts gonna really have to get shit moving if they want transformers 2 at that date. wb is probably betting they dont; and even if they do t4 will just move. Its terminator; it can go anywhere as long as theres no HUGE compeition and do the same numbers. And if transformers doesnt make; t4 gets July 4th weekend.Atfer t3 Id be very surprised if T4 gets a big price tag. T3 was 175 million back in 2003.

With Avatar though it could have special effects that look quite like nothing we've seen before. At least based on what Cameron has said. So, it could do TDAT numbers or more.

The Wolfman just took the same release date as Cursed did in 2005.

TDAT had tidal waves crashing through NYC and Twisters tearing up L.A. What does Avatar have?

Granted; Fox really stepped up their game for TDAT; they will have to do the same for Avatar for similar numbers...

Not exactly. The Wolfman is opening on President's Day weekend and has Valentine's Day on Saturday. Cursed opened on the weekend after President's Day weekend which is usually a bad weekend for openers.

What does Avatar have? Like the post you replied to stated, this is going to have revolutionary effects. It takes place on another planet and will surely have huge battle scenes, with said battles being fought in all sorts of wild ways. We really know very little about the visuals of Avatar thusfar, but c'mon dude, it's fucking James Cameron. If any director out there is going to have some fucking wild money shots, it's him.
