 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
I think this is a lock to beat Avatar's opening for largest non-brand opening ever.

So is Adolf Hitler then! And Hercules! and Achilles!
They're not brands, dumbass.
Samsung is a brand. Marvel is a brand. LEGO is a brand.
See the difference?

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
I know more people who read Harry Potter cover to cover than the Bible cover to cover. (Not trying to say that the Bible isn't popular....just stating a fact).

See the difference? The Bible is the most popular book in the world. That means literally nothing. You clearly don't know what a brand is.

I would say Jesus has become a brand.

Well, Naziism is a brand. It's just one that's heavily boycotted.

Religions, political stance, cults etc. ...but not a brand.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
I consider a brand is something that is based on a product. The Bible is not a product, so The Passion of the Christ was not cased on a brand, IMO. Anyway, it looks like Guardians could beat that opening anyway.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
You can buy a Bible, but it doesn't exist to make money. It does make money when people buy it, but that's not the point.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
It absolutely exists to make money. In fact, that may be its only purpose.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
Still, Interstellar could beat TPOTC's opening, so it might not matter.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
This coming off two black hole months for movies could really add to the anticipation factor. It's in a much better position than Inception was back in 2010 with less competition and more than enough open ground to grab the event movie status of those not interested in THG.
I'm not saying I see it opening to something HUGE like $100M, but GOTG's success has definitely given me hope that audiences are craving for more original flicks. All it needs is a killer marketing campaign and great reviews.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
yeah, starting to feel more confident about this. WB will market this as an event film. I'm expecting both Big Hero 6 and Interstellar to open within 10 million of each other.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
Consider Marvel's track record and that Big Hero 6 is the studio's follow-up to Frozen, I could see this losing in total to Big Hero Six. I can see both potentially do $300 m and Interstellar will win opening weekend though.
