Barrabás wrote: I would not rule out the shooting affecting international box office...I'm in Peru right now and the shooting is HUGE news, everyone is talking about it, it was the front page story in every newspaper and I've heard many say that they won't go to see Batman despite that sort of thing NEVER happening here (or parents who don't want their kids to go). People can get paranoid very easily. Idk. I'd imagine though there might be some paranoia it shouldn't be anywhere close to the level it is in the US because a) the incident happened here so there is some sense of removal, and b) most foreign countries (or at least Europe, I think) see America as gun-happy nation where the likelihood of this happening here is just significantly magnified by the comparative laxity of our gun control laws leading many to the "that wouldn't happen here" conclusion. On the flipside it obviously is an international story, with foreign premieres being cancelled and all, but that just serves to heighten awareness of the film itself without having to deal with the dampening effect of pervasive paranoia on the same level.

I know that the premiere in Paris was supposed to be Friday, and it was cancelled.

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
I think that is GREAT number from 17 markets. I don't see it being effected to degree of it being noticeable in OS markets where the markets have grown huge already.
I see a $650m+ total with this, the movie have a lot of action will sell easily in a lot of foreign markets. The problem being the WOM as everyone knows TDK in OS as well thanks to Joker's amazing performance. There are few of my friends who saw TDK only after hearing about Joker and they are not interested going to this one. Again this is a minuscule data so it hardly matters but if this becomes similar there could be a problem with its legs.

Yesterday at the midnight showing there were security guards at the entrance to the screen who checked all your bags and pockets and 3 security guards stayed inside for the whole showing.

Is it just me or the overseas gross is growing pretty slowly? It's still just at $248M after 10 days? HP8 made that in less than 3 days.

This has a staggered release whereas DH2 did not. Batman is also nowhere near as popular as Potter overseas and it also doesn't have 3D boosting its gross. Terrible comparison all the way around.

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
So has it finally opened in all/most of its markets now?

They've been flip-flopping back and forth about whether it would be released. Most recent news is that they were working on the dubbed version of it, so hopefully that is a sign that the release will happen.

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
its opening in italy in late august which is a good release date considering the market is dead in the summer. That should add 15M minimum.
I think OS BO was affected by Olympics and so we can expect great legs in most markets. I think with summer weekdays its making 575M+ from existing markets. China/Italy should take it close to 700M. Not bad at all for a Batman film.

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
That is a good number but not as impressive as last weekend's numbers. I do think good legs will follow for $500m OS total from holdovers but I don't see $700m OS total as of now. It has only few key markets left to open, so $600m OS looks like a good scenario at this point. Unless China explodes and adds another $100m to its OS total.

Not bad at all for a Batman film. Really damn good for a Batman movie. Who would have thought these numbers would be realistic just 7 years after BB made $166m? These numbers are even more impressive when you consider it isn't cheating with 3D like so many other overseas juggernauts. According to some posters at BO.com who are in China, the hype for it is massive over there. One of them said it could make $100m like M:I4 did. That would be incredible if it happens.

Yeah that is a possibility but not guaranteed. Plus China is not as consistent with legs as Japan so even with a big opening it is not guaranteed to reach $100m there at this point given the hype movie got over at KJ I can see another US type Internet hype expecting huge numbers.

I'd be happy with $50m. Anything is better than the big fat $0 that TDK got from China.

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
UK - Second Weekend
£7,275,558 (-49.3%)
Total to date - £30,551,765
Comparisons
Avengers - £8,121,916 (£29,851,680) TDK - £6,737,306 (£25,374,829)
The Friday box office would have been affected by the Olympic Opening Ceremony. The TV broadcast had the highest ratings in 14 years with nearly half the population watching at one point.

A bigger than expected drop this weekend but Olympics might have had some effect this weekend still a great number in UK.

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
the film is underwhelming overseas as well. Lower than expected opening weekends in most countries and steep drops in most holdovers. Not good at all

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
It is not "underwhelming" overseas. It could have done better considering how well TDK was received, it still has GREAT openings at almost all the places. I am more concerned about the holds and considering its weekend was impacted by Olympics it might see better holds.

I sort of agree.
The first weekend was massive but the 2nd weekend is underwhelming...

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
The film has nearly doubled what the previous film did overseas at the same point in its run, so I fail to see how this one is going to fail to pass 468M.
