For a lesser-known comic book adaptation, Thor's overseas performance is tremendous. Though I guess the fantasy elements are an easier sell in Europe.

X-Men: First Class is still getting to around $350 million worldwide.

Agreed Thor did open huge in all the markets, though it came out at a time when people were craving for movies, and it was also the first of the lot to come out, still though great performance.

X-Men is headed for about $320m-$330m WW, not as bad as some were suggesting but it could have done better. WOM does not really seem to effect its run both domestically and Overseas (give or take a few countries where it opened big anyways)

EDIT: I meant $320m-$330m WW not OS

Thor still has Japan left to open in July. I doubt it will do much because superhero movies very rarely do well (except Spider-Man), but 1 billion yen ($12 million) should be reasonable. Perhaps that'll be good enough to allow Thor to hit $450 million WW.

WOM has never had an effect on X-men franchise. It's the type of franchise that relies too much on opening weekend.

^ Are you sure you would like to use always here ? I think Part 1 and Part 2 had decent multiplier, even Last stand with $100m+ opening reached IM of 2.3

He's not far off using 'always'. None of the X-Men films have had good legs, not even when compared to other films with similarly big openings. X2 especially had pretty stellar reception, but didn't manage much more than an IM of 2.5. Compare that to say, Iron Man's 3.2 IM and it's really just not that great.

Post Re: COMICS 2011 (INTL.) - X-MEN: First Class
Not a very good drop for X-Men: First Class here in the Netherlands. Thor dropped -35.6% in its second weekend and had a higher total (€881,624) with a higher per-screen average (€2,805) despite opening slightly below X-Men: First Class. A 41% drop might not seem bad, but films generally have better legs than that over here.

1 1 4 PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, WDS [187/€4,178] €781,356 -34.4% €7,581,696
2 2 3 HANGOVER PART II;THE, WB [108/€6,645] €717,698 -28.1% €3,732,128
3 3 2 X-MEN:FIRST CLASS, WB(FOX) [92/€2,636] €242,586 -41.1% €816,507
4 - 1 SOURCE CODE, eOne [58/3,469] €201,211 N/A €242,585
5 - 1 PENNY'S SHADOW, IF [100/€1,092] €109,242 N/A €141,910

At this rate it's not going to get anywhere NEAR the other X-Men films. Especially not X-Men 1. which made €2,349,210 ten years ago, easily the biggest film in the franchise here (over €500,000 more than Wolverine did).

First Class is going to be the highest grossing movie in the franchise over here in Hong Kong. Right now, it stands at 2.46m and is going to pass The Last Stand this weekend. 3m is a lock. Is there anywhere else where it's taking the franchise record?

I think Singapore and Malaysia will also have similar numbers. Arch did mention Philippines also saw FC having the biggest opening of the franchise, so maybe there as well.

In India too, this will be the highest grossing of the franchise. However, the studio will get 40% of the boxoffice receipts at best.

Asia has delivered but it's doing pretty ordinarily in Europe. Some of the opening takes in some markets i've seen are the lowest of the franchise.

Shame because the movie is amongst the best.

Hong Kong

Even with Green Lantern opening, X-Men is heading for a drop between 40-45% (about $320,000 for the weekend). Fantastic performance here.

Oh, by the way, 3rd weekend comparisons of the X-Men franchise...

Wolverine: -64.6% ($115,730)
The Last Stand: -62.6% ($232,225)

$133,952,230 is FC's current OS gross according to BOM. Will probably be at $160+ million by the end of the weekend.

Pretty good run there, like most Asian countries. I'm surprised it doesn't play better in Europe considering the theme. Perhaps audiences are just tired of another X-Men pick?

X-Men: First Class now stands at $163.2 million overseas, coming off a $21 million weekend. It'll pass $300 million worldwide next weekend and still has a shot at $200+ million overseas and $350+ million worldwide.

Umm...why? X2 made $192,761855 overseas and Wolverine made $193,179,707. X-Men: First Class looks to outdo these two, falling only behind X-Men: The Last Stand overseas. That, to me, is impressive enough. What more could have been expected?

Yeah, it's doing comparatively better overseas than any of the other X-Men.
