Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
Thats what we need though...if for every 10 theaters that only has 1 or 2 sells outs or no sell outs but a few pretty full theaters, you have a huge one doing near 20k in business... I wanna know the midnight theater count. 84 Imax are and all will no doubt sell out. I know everybody is saying it isnt gonna touch Siths midnights but its hard to deny its gotta slight chance...I mean the above theater has sold over $11,000 in presales to midnight alone... The 16 million sith did in 2900 theaters was pta of 5,517. If TDK is in, say, 3500 theaters for midnights, to hit 16 million it would require $4,517. Theaters like the one above will push $20,000 ALONE... Midnights are gonna be quite large, Excel thinks Btw...take a ganer at the presales for Friday

It had a 2nd weekend drop of 58.4%, and even had a 52% drop on its 3rd weekend. And it still managed a 2.75+ multiplier. I could see TDK dropping over 60% on its second, but then have sub-50% drops after that and getting to a multiplier of around 2.8. And it'll win the year if it gets a 2.8+ multiplier and a 115m+ OW. what you're saying makes sense, but I don't understand how it could drop over 60% if Dead Man's Chest only dropped like 54%.

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
While a $125m+ opening is looking mighty fine right now, I have this awful feeling that people outside the extended Batman fanbase won't show up for this, and that the inflated number of sellouts is from all the people who just "get" the hype for this movie...kinda like what happened with "Cloverfield," except on a way huger level.
But at the same time, I don't see how this would have bad legs, so I guess there's little to worry about.

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
You know... I have my doubts time to time about regular movie-going audiences not showing up but you know what?
This film has had one of the strongest, most omnipresent advertising campaigns I have ever seen. EVERYONE is aware that it's coming out. And what's more, I don't think the complete overabundance of tv spots and ads and articles is causing a backlash. For some odd reason, it's not overkill and for alot of other movies, it probably would be.
At this point, yes, I too would be shocked if it didn't clear $100 million but I've come back down to earth from my $140m+ predictions.
As of now, I can see this opening to around $115-124 million (including sneaks). That number may go up but I don't think it would go higher than $130m.

Yeah, that's where I have it too. 115m-125m OW. At this point, if it does sub-100m I would be dissapointed. If it does 100m-110m, I'd be satisfied. 110m-115m would be good, 115m-120m would be great, and anything above 120m+ would be fantastic. Oh, and there's no sneaks for this. It's opening at 12:00AM on July 19th Saturday?

As awesome as it'd be to see this become the biggest 3-day opening ever, isn't that kind of...impossible? Its running time is 2 and a half hours.

Fandango has confirmed that TDK is selling out fastest for pre-opens. I think 50M OD is highly probable. http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/d ... aspx?guid={B5BD65BB-6F91-4F77-BE86-ECA4086909B8}&dist=hppr

If it comes close to 50 million it should be able to top 130 which would be unbelievable.

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
Isn't this just a lot of marketing hype. The more people talk about stuff selling out, the more people rush out to buy their tickets now because they think they are going to miss out otherwise. This movie will be huge but I don't think there is really much more I can deduct from the presales and sellouts stats.
