The same has been said about Batman Begins...and about Hulk...

That sounds about right to me. But I think $150 million is a lock.

People fail to realize that Superman Returns won't be successful off of a fanbase alone. It needs to have appeal outside of that audience, and if the trailer isn't appealing enough, there's no hope. Spider-Man had an exciting teaser, trailer, and marketing -- Superman failed with the teaser.

It's that simple.

It's a good comparison, actually, except Superman's marketing isn't looking too good while Fantastic Four had a marketing campaign that grabbed average joes by the balls.

Is there perhaps a chance that Superman will have a Trailer with Kong(unlikely I know)???
FF4 had the problem that it was compared to Begins and I dont know if FF4 is as popular as Spidey Bat or Supes.
But I agree they have to heavely improve the trailers.

Yup. And it still had the best marketing onslaught this year so far, IMO. Its first teaser, however, was pretty lame too.

I rely on Singer's directing abilities and predict Superman to be a far better movie than F4. If he manages that, maybe it'll pull a surprise and won't drop like a rock, similar to Batman. And by not dropping like a rock, I mean a multiplier of over 3.

Basing its quality on Singer's track record, and if the marketing is stagnant, I'm thinking 64/205.

I guess we can make perhaps a good comparison to this year.
Lets see
2005
Batman(huge name) than close Fantasic Four(as well known name). As far I know people did compare them with a hurt to FF4.
2006
X-Men3(Really becoming a huge name) than close Supes(huge name). I guess they will be compared to. Good things for supes can be the following
-X3 is bääh and there will be a "Supes is the only Superheromovie worth seeing this year".
-X3 is very good and Singer can do better "Its even better than X3"

So X3 will have an influence I guess and its essentially important that SInger will do the better movie or he will have problems.

Batman is more popular than Spider-Man and Superman. Superman WAS more popular - 30 years ago.

Superman will not see Spidey's numbers. At the end of the day, both DC bohemeths are going for quality (Batman Begins) instead of downright fun (Fantastic Four). Spidey 1 captured both. Superman won't be doing that.

They better hope so. Right now, thre isnt that much support for Superman Returns from fan sites like it has been for Batman Begins. BB's crappy opening weekend was only saved by its good word of mouth which lead to it making 200 million. As of right now, I see alot of people making fun of Supe's costume and saying that Brandon Routh is miscast. As far as Superman being a big draw, it was only in the first two movies but it was downgraded drastically from Superman 3 and 4. People dont just blindly go see superman just because of its name otherwise the past tv shows would of done so much better. Hes and icon but Superman is nowhere in the same league as Starwars and even Batman to draw fans in to see the movies. Just by the teaser trailer reactions itself, there doesnt seem to be much interest but then again these with little kids. Oh wait, kids! Arent they like a big portion of comicbook movie take?

Theres no argument that Superman Returns will probably end up a better product than X-3. Then again it may just only be a decent good movie like Blade 2 was but not in the league of Batman Begins or Spidey 2

You guys CANNOT be serious?

anybody who is predictiing UNDER 200 million for this is out fo their mind.

Period.

This film is costing 250 MILLLOIN DOLLARS.

Please.hwo in the whole fucking world. can that. possibly.translate. to. a. boring. movie.

also please. these "BATMAN BEGINS got 200, so supes cant beat it" arguments are bullshit.

batman begins was restarting a franchise that had once been HUGE. But only 8 years. in short, Batman was viwed as COOL in 1989-1997. after 1997 it totally stopped. people forgot about him. it takes alotmore then 8 years for a character to become cool again. and incase you didnt notice ,thats true. batman had virtually no public hype heading into its opening weeked cause anybody under the age of 20 had seen a batfilm and remembered them. they could remember them intheaters. and their toys. in short batmman wasa a figure of their childhood that was now old. itd be like trying to reintroduce beanie babies again today. itd just be very hard,

its like this. imagine have spiderman in 2002. now imagine sony waiting till 2010 just to totally redo it.

thats the situation batman had. except when he left everybody hated him.

superman is DIFFERENT. Unless you were borin in 1982- or before, you wont remember seeing a superman film in theaters. so just in terms ofthat the arguments done. superman hasnt been on the big screen in 19 years. baman was 8. so that argument is pointless. a superman movie will be much more fresh then a batman ever was because its been so long since one.

now in terms of a film-dont worry. actor/crew have all said-when compared to the donner movies-this film is much morefun and light. the teaser might seem very serious but that isnt how the film will be. this film-incase you couldnt tell from the plot-will be very similar to BATMAN in terms of plot. itll be about that good. this will just be a lot of fun.

so please. no bat comparisons. they dont work.

back to the argument.....zingaling, you said you want a reason for 400 million...give us a reason for under 200 million. supermans appeals to every possible genre but unlike fantasic four this is getting respect, will be a much better film, a waaaay bigger character name.

also look at it like this. in 05 everybody seemed to be waiting all may to seestar wars. now tell me what movie in june appeals to adults? like star wars was in may, people will be waiting for superman to come cause theyll be so much liottle kiddie crap.

Oh and for the record, bryan singer personally said, ayt princeton, that the films second teaser is ocming very soon. the point of the harrypotter one was just to tell theworld this films coming.

as of right now-superman is way more mainstream then batman. batman doesnt appeal to kids or women or people looking for comedy, while those are 3 of superman biggest audiences, while still having the action/drama/suspense to fall back on.

plus it 250 million. do you really think that there is even the SLIGHTEST CHANCE that w.b. wont market this movie? or an even slighter chance that they wont show off the effects in the trailers? please. this film has more tie ins fantastic four as is. it HAS to be marketed if w.b. doesnt weanna be sued.

personally, i think we should pay for close attention to goblet of fires numbers as i thinktheyll be similar...

this film is a legit lock for 200 million with 250 million at probably 85%

so to sum up....you think batman will beat this?what?

superman returns-which is being promised as the marketing event of next year and predicted by most as next years biggest offering(just check its numbers at hollywoodstock exchange if you dontbelieve me)- will outgross batman begins in 10 days or less.

150 million 5 day. 175 first weekend with 40 minmum second week.

I can say the same for anyone predicting 300 million too and maybe 200 million. Its a dead franchise waiting to be resurrected like Batman was
Quote:

So budget equals how much a movie can gross? Do you realize how many movies bomb even with a 100 million budget? Troy also had a 200 million budget but it grossed only 135 million here in north america. When has the budget of a movie lured more people in. "Oh look expensive explosions huh heh huh heh huh heh"

Quote:
Please.hwo in the whole fucking world. can that. possibly.translate. to. a. boring. movie.

I dont know anyone mentioning a "boring movie" here. You must of mixed it up with BKB's rant about Batman Begins being boring which he probably is stating for the movie but I have found no such quote, I can only find his quotes on the CGI Superman muscles.
Quote:
also please. these "BATMAN BEGINS got 200, so supes cant beat it" arguments are bullshit.

Why is it hard to believe when each respective sequel of the Batman has outgrossed each respective Superman movie with adjusted gross taking into place? Want me to draw a pie chart?

Once upon a time people, Superman movies were viewed as cool until Richard Pryor and Jon Cryer appeared in the superman movie series thus dragging its popularity into comedic territory. My theory about this is dont cast anyone whos last name rhymes with Fryer

Its like this. Imagne having a Superman with extra colorful rubbery outfit that the muscles look fake. Now Imagine the lead actor barely looks like hes out of highschool.

Thats the situation Superman also had except when Jon Cryer made everone hate him but I partly blame that on Nuclear Man which is why the Superman 4 makes an appearance at imdb's worse movie and its gross is only 20 million compared to Batman & Robins 110 million gross

i didnt say that...but who are you kidding. supermans 1000 times more famous then troy is and wont be rated r and appeals to a lot more people. troy also got 500 million ww while being rated r and not beging a big name.

because it was a different time. a different type of movie going public. superman returns is going to be a lot more like BATMAN was. batman was gone 8 years. the only other compaison for that is goldeneye, which also made significantly less the rest of the franchise...though it did resurect it. why would batman be any different? nobody was asking for a batman movie.

supes is 19 years. the best comparisons are BATMAN who returned in 1989 after a 21 year absence, and satr wars who returned in 1999 after 16 years. both were met with huge hype. why should superman be any different? lotta people-due to recent effects./comic films-were asking where is a superman movie.

that isnt going to matter. as BATMAN proved, lookswise, a film cane be entrily different then what the audience expects. granted the change then was waaay more drastic, but still. routh does look like superman. his superman might not look like christopher reeve, but he still looks like superman.

the difference is superman 4 was 1987. people will have forgotten about it. you watch BATMAN FOREVER or BATMAN & ROBIN and you could legit. argue they were made in year 2000. they hadnt dated at all. superman movhes have dated so badly nobody wants to watch em anymore. theyd prefer a new view with proper special effects.

SUPERMAN isnt on tv. clark kent is. and to a ton of kids that is a huge difference.

bottom line: superman is up there with spiderman and star wars as the only 3 big budget light cgi fests. release em in summer, and their usually a lock for 250 million.
