Eh, using The Numbers over SBD...The Numbers with MCN have worst track record for friday estimates, if that means anything to you.

I was just using it because it had increases for each movie. Even if Narnia did $8.2m the highest Fri. estimate it increased 42%. Kong using the lowest Fri. estimate did $8.1m and using the highest Thur. estimate did $5.58m for a 45% increase.

$0.7 million for Brokeback Mountain's Friday gross isn't great, but it's okay. I never expected this movie to break through to mainstream audiences completely. It will go further than any serious movie that had gay relationships as its main plot point (and please spare me from the comments which say that this is not what the movie is about at all) and should be lauded for that already, but the immense PTA was bound to drop at some point of its expansion.
Looks like a $3.1 million 4-day weekend to me and a 4-day PTA of around $14,000 which is still pretty good, just not as great as expected. Next weekend should be around $2-3 million as well, if there is no expansion and when it goes to 275+ theatres on January 6th it should make $2-3 million once again. If slow expansion continues (and in this case I think it is a good strategy), then it is unlikely that we will see a weekend gross of $5+ million by it anytime soon, but it should stay steady for a while and eventually top $45 million.

Is there a reliable source confirming the $0.7m gross for BBM?

I think it will. I don't see the drop today being bigger than 40%.

Walk the Line is actually down to 1,534 theatres, I suppose it will drop to below 1,200 on Sunday, once Rumor Has It arrives. It should still make around $2.5 million for the 4-day weekend.
Syriana is still dying a slow death. It is down over 30% from last weekend, despite being in its third weekend and not having lost theatres. Once December is over it's done. I don't think it will reach $40 million anymore.
Excellent number for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Bodes well for my $285 million projection.

Anyway its said, I don't believe that it was a good expansion at all for BBM. In 69 theaters, I think it still could have done $500,000-$550,000 at least. The additional 148 theaters didn't really do much. It'll still be a good avg, but its disappointing no less.

Memoirs of a Geisha is in for a really good weekend. As xiayun has said before, it might not suffer a huge decline on Christmas Eve and will have a good weekend multiplier. I expect around $11-11.5 million for the 4-day weekend. With a good hold next weekend and probably decent legs (even The Phantom of the Opera had good legs), I can see it reaching $50+ million. Would be weird if it actually managed to outdo Brokeback Mountain despite its bashing by the critics.
Wow, Pride and Prejudice actually decreased 25% from Thursday. I blame Focus once again for mishandling the movie. It will still reach $35 million.
Fun with Dick and Jane will make around $22-25 million for the 4-day portion I think. It should follow Ocean Twelve's or MTF's pattern, I suppose. With such a weekend and a nice next weekend, it should still be a lock for $100 million.

I agree that it is slightly disappointing, but looking at the Friday numbers, it seems that the adult oriented stuff wsa what increased the least, which I suppose makes sence since that is the group most likely to be distracted by last minute shopping and preparations for the holidays... I expect it to post some good numbers on Christmas Day (adult films always do well that day) and through the week as well... here's hoping!

If it makes you feel any better, Narnia will almost certainly beat KK from Tuesday to Thursday this week.

I think it's pretty much a lock. With an increase certain next weekend I don't see how it can fall shy of 40m, and I don't see Brokeback getting that high.
