The Dark Shape was spot-on regarding Texas Chainsaw costing around 20 million versus the previously reported eight.

I'm liking these small budgets. It seems Hollywood has woken up since a few years ago. They make huge savings throughout the year so they can spend like crazy for their summer or winter blockbusters.

$60 million for Gangster Squad isn't small. :P It won't break even.

Well, if you only use one market out of about 50 odd, then of course it's not going to break-even. But the last I heard, studios weren't giving it for foreign markets for free. ;)

Kinda big budget for both gangster squad as well as zero dark thirty. Moreso with the heavy marketing campaign GS had.

Gangster Squad's budget, while a bit hefty, seems reasonable to me. It has an A-list ensemble cast, is a stylized period piece, has multiple action sequences, etc., not to mention the significant post-Aurora revision. This could have cost 100 million.

Much of this is also true for Zero Dark Thirty, which, though featuring mostly character actors and television veterans, is a truly international production. It cost less than Green Zone, Jarhead, Lions for Lambs, and Syriana.

As I said it's not really bad but they are on the higher end, both of them could have been made for a little lesser IMO.

I feel you, Sparrow. I was just saying short of paying the actors in magic beans and shooting the film Dogville style in a Costco in Wyoming, I believe Gangster Squad's budget is reasonable for such a lavish production.

Maybe a bit high for Parker? Unless there is a surprising Latino turnout for it, I suspect they could have hired an actress less expensive than Jennifer Lopez.

Very reasonable for Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. It will definitely turn a profit. I believe it is already doing well overseas?

Great budget for Movie 43. Impressive they scored so many A-list stars for under 10 million, even if each only has a cameo sized role.

That's a good budget for H&G IMO even though $40m would not have surprised me :P

Parker should have definitely been made in less than $15m, not sure addition of Lopez is the only reason but overall that's a big budget for a Stathom movie.

Really impressive for Movie 43.

Not really.

The Transporter cost $21m, the sequel cost $32m, The Mechanic cost $40m, Death Race cost $45m and Killer Elite cost $70m.

Transporter is different movie and had reasonable justification for that budget.

Never said other movies had great budget specially know when the markets know the range of Statham movies.

Great for Warm Bodies. Too high for Jack, I still feel it should have been released in summer with that budget. The current release date is just awful.

This is not criticism because it is still a solid budget, but I am almost surprised Side Effects cost so much: more than three times Magic Mike's production cost and also higher than Haywire.

Lol, what? $30m is cheap.

Contagion cost $60m, and starred 6 stars; Laurence Fishburne, Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow and Marion Cotillard. Side Effects has 4 stars, and it costs half as much.

ROFL. You people are debating over $30m budget for a big studio movie helmed by Soderbergh and starring Jude Law, Channing Tatum, Rooney Mara, Katherine Zeta-Jones? That's cheap and reasonable.

David, Magic Mike takes place in a strip club. And everybody took a lower paycheck for that one I guess.
