They did during mine, it didn't get a very good reaction though. Someone screamed "nobody see that movie!!!" and everyone was clapping and laughing.

Wedding crashers easily got the best reaction at my theater.
War of the Worlds and Fantastic 4 also had decent reactions.
Cinderella man was flat.
Mr and Mrs Smith was only slightly below, with people howling when the "Mom! Were on High alert here! I almost shot your right there!"

I thought the newer trailer for Fantastic Four actually looked somewhat silly. Maybe just me, but the anticpation greatly decresed after that one.
I'll still see it, but I'm not expecting what I was originally.

It just won't be a movie of the quality of a Spiderman or Xmen.
That doesn't mean it can't still be fun. It is a Popcorn Blockbuster to the fullext extent.

We got the "The Island" trailer with ROTS, it looks bad.

I'm thinking it will be more like Elektra then either of those.

Yep. Very true. I don't expect FF4 to perform as terribly as either of those, but I don't expect it to perform much better then LXG either.

Trailers (looks like my theater defied Lucas...) War of the Worlds (new trailer; lots of talking) Mr. and Mrs. Smith (lots of talking) The Island (whispering) Fantastic Four (great reaction) Cinderella Man (whispering) Narnia (no reaction...) Batman Begins (lots of talking)
You won't find out what I thought about the movie (or even a grade) until I write the review for the site.
But, as for the crowd reactions, it was fantastic. Lots of people dressed up, lots of clapping (especially the huge round of applause at the end...); just massive excitement.
You don't have to write it down. I'm sooooooo sure it's an A+.

LOEWS METREON - SAN FRANCISCO
DLP 7PM THURSDAY - SOLD OUT
Cinderella Man - Booo's (comments overheard: what's this crap doing showing with star wars?)
Batman - excitement at first, then lackluster talking at the end. (HORRIBLE TRAILER)
War of The Worlds - excitement at first - silence at the end
Mr. + Mrs. Smith - enthusiastic response - lot's of talking
Fantastic Four - all the gays in the audience liked the fire guy and 'woof'ed loudly at the screen. Rest were indifferent, maybe somewhat excited.
My Review:
Well, to start off with, at least I stayed awake in this one.
I truly thought this movie was wretched. All it did was tell a story, which they could have done in a twenty minute clip. And it wasn’t a happy story. This was a long drawn out case study of how a person who is ‘lost’ gets involved in troubling things. Hmm, let’s take the kids to see a movie that shows them if they are troubled, the ‘dark’ world of drugs and gangs (or whatever other vices there are these days) will make you an all powerful and respected leader. I really don’t understand how people could have enjoyed watching a movie that glorified someone’s personal downfall and then clapped about him at the end. Just bizarre.
Where was the ‘happy’ star wars fun? Did I miss it? The fight sequences were way over done to the point it was silly and rediculous (fighting on floating lava, and not even sweating, and the whole elevator thing, come on…). Also lot of things looked like they were ‘stolen’ right out of ‘The Fifth Element’ to me. The ending was really rushed and ended on a sour note. I felt no closure to this ‘episode’. When it ended, people in the theatre really didn’t know if they should clap or not. I think there was a lot of mixed emotions about the movie…
C3PO got very little screen time. R2D2 had no funny jokes. This movie had no appealing aspect or redeeming qualities to it at all. What a piece of crap.
Rating: One star, only for the effort to make it, and for the sound mix.
Saw it in DLP 5 rows back from the screen and all I saw were PIXELS.
The on-demand mentality that has trained theatres to have 8 prints interlocked in 15 auditoriums with shows starting every 10 minutes will have every fanboy see this this weekend. But, since it’s a case study, they won’t need to see it again. (And if they want to, they’ll remember Flight Of The Phoenix, and how it came out on DVD two months after it started in the theatres, and they will just wait for the DVD.) The regular folks like me will spread the bad WOM quickly, and I hear it’s already being downloaded on the Internet. I can see why Lucas wanted this released worldwide in as many locations as possible all at once. Expect this to fall 60% or more next weekend. And all these poor theatres with long contracts and multiple prints….suckers!

I'll bet you anything it does not drop 60% next weekend. Count on it.

The second weekend's drop should be between TPM and AOTC.

Hmm wrong all the time? I definately wasnt one of those people who thought Fever Pitch would outdo Sahara. Dont forget that you were still wrong about Monster In Law making over 25 million for the weekend

I was MUCH closer than you were, so that's probably a bad example there.
bABA, is pulling up a 2 year old misfire the best that you can do?

Thank you.
Regardless of the outcome of this (which I'm confident in \:D/ ), this is the last of the limbs that I'm going out on. It takes too much time and energy, and I really want to stay away from the overly competitive "sports mentality" of the whole box office predicting stuff. Too easy to offend people here without meaning to. I'll speak up if I think everybody is going too high or too low, but I'll be more focused on posting elsewhere, and don't want the box office forum dominating my time here.

Isn't it fun, though? Who cares if you offend one or two people, they can cry about it while you go on with box office competition.

It can be really fun, yes. I'm not giving it up completely, just giving up it being my main focus here at the forums, and limiting my fanboy activity. I'm sure that I'll comment on Batman Begins, War of the Worlds, and Fantastic Four, but talking about those types of movies, especially their box office, brings out my bad side, and I'd rather avoid that. Like I said, though, I'll still make predictions, I'll just be much more low key.
