Not sure why I made that assumption. The article didn't make me think otherwise. These THR and Variety articles are still so, so vague.

I can confirm that both THG and TDKR were selling midnight showings and all three days of the wknd, sellout reports can be found in my older posts.

Truth, makes my butchery look like decent writing.

I seem to remember buying my ticket for Ultron way in advance and was able to choose Saturday/Sunday shows too. It's a very common practice. There is only one movie in modern history that compares with the demand we're seeing so far and that is Phantom Menace. Star Wars is about to challenge the conventional wisdom about December openings. Should be fun to watch it unfold. Hopefully the movie itself is a heck of a lot better than TPM was!

TDKR and MATRIX RELOADED both tracked ahead of everything post TPM.

I just don't see it as a fair comparison the way it is written in that article. And I totally see that the chasm between the two revenues is too large to argue against.

Why do you assume the others did not have other showtimes? I bought my tickets for TDKR the first day they were available and my tickets were for Saturday, not for midnight or even Friday night. It is not uncommon for them to offer the entire weekend of tickets for sale on the first day like this. SW7 blew them all out of the water.

The fact that all of these were crashed for many hours is strong proof of the demand: Fandango, MovieTickets.com, AMC.com, Regal.com, and just about any other place you can buy movie tickets. This didn't happen with Potter 8, TDK/TDKR, none of the Hunger Games movies, etc.

Why are you so impressed with the nerdiest of internet nerd material dominating online sales?

Because Batman and Potter both have a really nerdy fanbase too and didn't do anywhere close to that kind of damage.

When did you buy it? I tried all night Monday and Fandango was dead as a doornail. Website worked fine when I woke up on Tuesday morning.

I bought a ticket for Sunday 12/20 as well. Mine is in Regal's 2D "RPX" premium large format. Can't stand 3D and it's a shame IMAX won't offer 2D shows.

Potter skews younger and Batman is more of a casual watch.

No it isnt, what a fucking bullshit claim. And potter is young nerds, meaning they have to beg their parents to buy tickets for them, then have them chaperone. Haven't bought my ticket yet, but I'm not too worried about it.still figuring out how many are coming

All of our IMAX shows are finally sold out. Only a couple of standard 3D showtimes left. Giant Star Wars display towering over our main concession stand.

First day, first weekend or first week?

Sorry, should have been more specific. First day but pacing to have the entire weekend gone soon since those with tickets left are already 70%+ full. This is for Lexington, KY.

Literally, WTF is your problem, dude? Is it really necessary to be that way all the time? Why are you so obsessed with destroying my posts?

The fact the Potter fans were younger just means they should be better at using the Internet to buy tickets. :P

Batman is a hybrid of big pre-sales and big walk-ups...so is Star Wars but Star Wars is on a different level. Films like Jurassic World, Transformers 2, and Avengers are just walk-up monsters with small pre-sales.

I meant that a lot of older audiences are turned off by the fact that they are based on children's books, so the audience overall is more limited.

For pre-sales though? Potter has the record on that at $45m and the midnight record $43.5m is insane too, though I would guess Force Awakens will go past both of those records.

There's just something about Star Wars and presale. The Phantom Menace is infamous for fans camping out to get tix, no other franchise has anything like that.

And it broke the opening day record on a Wednesday and would have shattered THE LOST WORLD's record had it opened on Friday.

85 million is not crushing.
