I'm out. Like Inception, it'll come close.

It could still get to $300M with that. Inception almost got there on a $62M opening.

I am sure Algren would have posted total and not the opening there.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
Sparrow is right. Based on everything so far (I've not seen the teaser), it has no appeal. Logo is unspectacular, Nolan doesn't wet my appetite like he does others, and the cast is simply ok. $85m total.

Well that's just crazy talk.
If only Nolan tightened your knickers like the rest of us... You could see so clear.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly the type to be overpredicted. 150m.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
DP07 wrote: I'm pretty sure this is exactly the type to be overpredicted Totally. I think we should try and keep our predictions in check. When before has an original movie made $300m? That's the question you have to ask yourself. I mean, do you guys really believe that this is the next Forrest Gump or Independence Day? because that's the level of interest it would need to get to $300m for an original release. I don't see it. The absolute best case scenario I see is Signs, with a much more realistic scenario being Super 8. But I feel it won't even clear $100m. Afterall, Nolan doesn't instantly mean $$$. The Prestige made $53m, and with no Leonardo DiCaprio or comicbook icon this time, Interstellar will have a hard time convincing average moviegoers to attend in their droves. Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain are good actors, but they are not top-tier draws by any means. Interstellar remains the first real test for Nolan in his post-Batman career. I see this being a very hyped Internet film, but with very little hype filtering to the man on the street ( Kick-Ass all over again?, perhaps).

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
The Prestige isn't a relevant point of comparison. The Christopher Nolan 'brand' didn't really take off until The Dark Knight. This one also looks to be much more of a spectacle driven film. And before Nolan's rewrite, the it was to be at least partially an action film.

300m will be down to the film itself. It's certainly not a lock at this stage.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
I think it will get close, like Inception. Should at least do Gravity numbers. But if any original film is going to clear $300 million in the next few years, this is it.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
We certainly do need more original films of this scope certainly.
I wonder though how the November release date will work for it? When was the last non franchise (Bond, Potter, Disney, THG, Twilight) mega blockbuster released in November? National Treasure?
I would think December would work better.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
The teaser trailer is solid, but nothing indicating $300M+. Hopefully, there is a more effects driven trailer with Godzilla in May, but until then it's hard to read a prediction on this one even with Nolan's name attached.

Yes the teaser certainly peaks my interest, but it's very hard to see where this is going.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
I'm sticking with my $85m prediction even after seeing the trailer. This could go two ways; it could be a epic blockbuster or it could be an underrated exploration of the psyche of an astronaut on an adventure into space, which in my opinion, is not an easy sell and therefore could not make blockbuster grosses. As Nolan is at the helm, I'm betting that the latter will prevail.

Yeah, we all know what a tough sell Nolan is financially.

But outside of Batman movies, which really are not sold on his name at all, he's had one big hit (which was largely because of his fame from the Batman movies, and because it starred Leonardo DiCaprio). This Interstellar is a test, no matter how much you guys think it is not.

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
It's basically Avatar and Gravity rolled into one, but I really question how the tone is going to be under Nolan. The script was designed for Spielberg-ian sensibilities.

So this is more family friendly than slightly dark and moody like previous Nolan flicks (based on a script, I'm assuming you're making that question based on it?)?

 Re: Interstellar 300m+ Club
Man of Steel was a film largely by other people but with a touch of Nolan, and it was better than anything Nolan has made previously...so Interstellar looks to be good.

This Interstellar is a test, no matter how much you guys think it is not. haha what? Memento was a very successful independent film that's had a long shelf-life on video, as has The Prestige, and this was before he became a big name. The idea that Nolan's stuff isn't accessible and name-tested at this rank is bunk.
