MovieDude, Collateral is DreamWorks. Or Fox. I forget which. Not Paramount, though.

Considering Coach Carter's WoM and the good reviews even a 45% drop seems a bit steep.
I really think that Paramount went on some kind of a marketing blitz with Sahara because otherwise I can't see why it opened as well as it did. The trailer looks terrible and so do all the TV spots that went online thus far. It won't be very frontloaded simply due to the kind of the movie it is, but an internal weekend multiplier of under 3 is not a good sign. Therefore, I see a drop of 40% at the very least next weekend followed by 35-40% drops throughout the rest of its run.

With Coach Carter, the WOM was amazing, and the reviews were good too, but nowadays a lot of these high school sports dramas get extremely teenager-oriented audiences. This was an MTV production y'know. Friday Night Lights got even better reviews but it's legs were just slightly better.
And with Sahara, na they didn't especially give it a huge run. It was moreso that while it didn't have a huge draw to any one demographic, they wisely made it appeal to kids, teenagers, and adults, not to mention both genders as well. Personally that's why I think it'll do so well as far as legs go. I do agree that the trailer and TV spots really undersell the movie, if this had been Sony or Fox I think it could've pulled off a 25-30 million weekend since a better trailer would've been assured.
Oh, and Jon, it was both Dreamworks and Paramount, they do that a lot, like War of the Worlds.

I doubt it'll drop over 50%.
I think somewhere around 45% this weekend, and the rest of it's run will have drops under 40%.

The author of these Dirk Pitt books has a really big following amongst senior citizens - I expect strong weekdays for quite some time ahead...

Quote: Second spot goes to last weekend’s number one film, Sahara, which seems to be getting more expensive every day. Sahara grossed another $13.1 million this weekend, down a slim 28%, but production company Crusader Entertainment shouldn’t get too excited quite yet. Some reports have had Sahara’s negative cost as much as $130 million, but that amount could go higher. Clive Cussler, the novelist who gave birth to Sahara, is suing Crusader for $10 million, saying the company made unauthorized changes to his story. Currently, the total for the action film sits at $36.4 million, with $100 million more seriously doubtful.

Well, after a frankly stunning second week hold, $69 million doesn't look out of reach at all! Once again, bang up job, Snrub! You're the best!

Sahara had an amazing drop this weekend of 27.5%.
Snrub's predicted total might be dead on with what actually happens.

This may be the end of Paramount's 2nd weekend effect. UNLESS, if Sahara starts dropping 10-20% now, then the effect would still be there.

I dunno, it might. With so little opening anytime soon I hardly think it'd get dropped from many theaters. Next weekend it'll only be behind Interpreter, Kung-Fu Hustle, Amityville, and maybe A Lot Like Love, and the week after xXx and Hitchikers, but it might be making more then Love and Amityville by then. This won't have POTC legs since it doesn't have summer weekdays, but at this point I'm thinking it'll get 70-80 million.

Snrub! You're the proverbial bomb, yo! I can't believe you called this film so ridiculously closely. All of your predictions from this point forward should be taken with the utmost authority!
Star Wars for sub-$300 million. Mark my words.

Once again:
Opening: $18 million.
Total: $69 million.
Has anyone ever come so close to being completely perfect in every way?
Didn't think so.
King Kong = $700 million. You heard it here first.

It is your job to bump this thread every 2 months to remind us of how good of a predictor you are.

Seriously, I would almost agree with that. I'm already predicting $200+ million for it.

About as well as my sub-300m prediction for Episode 3...
Still, Charlie will break 300 million, mark my words...
On another note, Sahara just past 68.5, meaning it can be rounded up to 69 million - meaning my prediction skills are truly the best thing you ever saw.
