I always supposed Ice Age 2: The Meltdown would behave similar to Shrek 2 as in terms of outgrossing the predecessor, but seeing this is still mind-numbing. The film is a lock for $250 million. A lock. It might challenge Cars for the biggest animated flick of the year. In fact, it might become the second-biggest movie of the whole year (behind POTC2). Even $300 million is not ruled out, but as of now, I'd project a total of $255-260 million.

Eh, 300m is out of the question.

Shrek 2 and Toy Story 2 have shown that while CGI-sequels have HUGE openings, their legs aren't as good as the original. IA2 would have to have better legs than IA1 to get to 300m, and I don't see IA2 getting above a 3.8 multiplier.

I agree with your projection though. 255m-260m seems where its heading.

It could challenge Cars, but I think after seeing how well IA2 performed, I don't see how Cars can't perform better considring the Pixar brand name.

But it'll be a close race.

Yeah, I don't think it is likely, as you can see by my projection, but I wouldn't rule it out. Shrek 2 had amazing legs. They were worse than the legs of the first film, but still very good.

Cars' problem is that...it is, well, about cars. I am not sure how well that will work out.

By the end of its third week, it'll pass the original Ice Age.

I think worldwide it should make $650+ million.

Should or could?

Because it's definitely not worthy of that much money, and should make less. Although I agree it could make that much.

Actually, make it "Will" instead of could or should, hehe.
