For comparison, Oblivion did $1.1 million in April, although those might have been 10:00PM, while this was earlier. Still, a good early sign for the weekend.

Pretty much a sign that Edge of Tomorrow will earn the same as Oblivion. Expect a $37m weekend.

How many theatres was it in? and when did it start showing?

It started at 8. My friend who works at the movie theater said there were only six people there for the 8PM IMAX showing.

That seems rather good compared to all the empty auditoriums everyone has been reporting.

Hopefully it can get to Oblivion's OW. I ended up predicting an OW slightly above $30m from the mixed to disappointing signs.

Couple things about that number.
1. While Oblivion had IMAX, it was a 2D movie, while Edge of Tomorrow has 3D showings as well. 2. The NBA finals last night were direct competition for a film like Edge of Tomorrow.

1.8M is more than I was expecting. I think it should be at least good for 30M now.

The previews are more than I expected but I believe they are on par with Oblivion since they started early and it is summer even though early.

That number for Edge is actually very good. Should definitely do 30+ this weekend.

Don't see less than $20m for the rest of today.

So I guess they're not separating the Night Before Our Stars #'s.

Good number. Both movies should end up where I'm expecting them too and hopefully good legs from thereon out.

$8.2m is good though I would say somewhere close to expectations. Its OD is not going to be more than $20m.

BTW LOL at THR article for saying that Maleficent and Fault are fighting for #1 spot as both are aiming $30m or more.

Do you mean it's opening day won't be more than 20M including previews? Or do you just mean 20M during the day Friday? I don't see any way this doesn't make at least 25M for Friday including previews.

Nobody is seeing it because of that whore.

1. What a horrible thing to say about someone.
2. Many people are seeing it because of her. Her performance Divergent was well-liked, and her performance in Fault is award worthy. Of course many are also seeing it because they are fans of the book or their friends are pulling them to the theater. Doesn't mean Shailene isn't pulling some of them in.

I think Algren is out of line and everything, but to give credit where it's due, he didn't call her a feminist.
