Post Reveal Yourself
It's time to reveal what your guilty pleasures are. What songs embarass you? What songs do you like even though you really shouldn't? I'll kick it off with a list of my own...

5. Nappy Roots - Po Folks
"All my life, been po'. But it really don't matter no mo'." I'd say that Nappy Roots ranks as one of the better rap groups. This song, however, is (mind the cliche) sheer stupidity. You hear the different guys in the group teasing R&B artists and it doesn't fit with the song. The verse itself sucks. Aside from a couple lines about how tough it is growin' up, the rest is all stuff only people from Kentucky (I think that's what it refers to) would understand. I'm embarassed, though. It's just...so...funny.

4. Dashboard Confessional - Hands Down
I love this song. Then, I think of all the people who can sing a DC album from memory, word for word, and I get freaked out. I worry that I'm becoming emo because of my urge to sing along while the song plays. The thought scares me.

3. Dixie Chicks - Travelin' Soldier
Back in the Kazaa days, you used to be able to search for an artist and find out his or her's most popular (with sharers) song. I'd always introduce myself to an artist that way. About the time the Dixie Chicks bitch slapped Toby Keith, I developed an interest in their music. It was critically acclaimed, it was crossover country, and it was more than a homage to the local bar and farm. I downloaded Travelin' Soldier. It's hard not being embarassed about a song that refers to soldiers, marching bands, and the like when you can't personally relate to them. Still, I was (and still am) hooked.

2. Jewel - Intuition
I feel uber gay when I listen to this song. If I were Snrub, I'd openly disclose how this song makes me wanna take a pair of boxers and throw it around like a lasso. I don't have that much strength, though...I liked Jewel. She was never a "sell-out," but when she first released this song, you could tell that she was just desperately trying to become a Britney or a Madonna. It screamed pop. I didn't want to give in, but the beat was toooo good.

1. Britney Spears - (Hit Me) Baby One More Time
I can't hate Baby One More Time. It sucks. You can hear that she has no voice. But, it's got the historical impact. Seriously, what ten year old DIDN'T glue their eyes on the screen when this one hit MTV? What ten year old DIDN'T lurk around shops looking for Britney Spears pictures. She isn't hot. She isn't talented. But, she was "it." When I was ten, I wasn't particular about the music I listened to and the song, regardless of its name, became something I'd hum to myself in the shower. I'm not kidding...

I realize I've probably lost sooo much respect (if I had any!) for posting this. The least you can do is respond and humor me.

sir-mix-alot  BABY GOT BACK!!

I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung, wanna pull out your tongue
'Cause you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh baby, I wanna get wit'cha
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But with that butt you got makes me feel so horny

ain't nothin finer then a fine honey wit a big ass. ala beyonce/jlo ;)

Except for numbers 12-10, most of those are clasics, so its nothing to be sad about. Its just those upper three.

The Cardigans - Love Fool

All my other musical tastes are awesome and totally not-embarassing.

Haha. Great thread, Ross. Here's some off the top of my head that i'm always embarrassed by when I play.

Avril Lavigne - Nobody's Home (acoustic version)
The techno remix of Total Eclipse Of The Heart. I think it's by Nikki French.
Heart - Alone
Don Henley - The Heart Of The Matter
Cindy Lauper - Time After Time

Roxette- I'll Stand By You (very beautiful song, cheesy, but beautiful.)

Stacie Q- Two Of Hearts

Mine would be:

My Heart Goes On - Celine Dion
Lady Marmelade - Aguilera/Pink/Lil' Kim/Mya
I will always love you - Whtiney Houston
Some stuff by Leann Rimes (Can't Fight the Moonlight, How do I live, I need you)

Some of these are pretty good.

I love the Landslide cover. And, even though they aren't lesbians (making them around the level of Milli Vanilli), tATu's All the Things She Said ain't bad for Top 40 shit.

Love Fool isn't embarassing. I've got it on my iPod! Same with Alone. It's the perfect hair metal (kinda) song.

I Will Always Love You is nice vocally. I kinda like "I'm Every Woman"... :-$

Im certainly not ashamed to be a Britney Spears fan; everyone secretly loves her music its just people are too wrapped up in "cool" stuff these days to bother giving it the kudos it deserves.

Celine Dion - I drove all night, im alive, a new day has come and Right infront of you. She in general is a guilty pleasure.
