 Mods' Top 100 Songs! (lovemerox)
Just like dolcevita did with the top 100 movies list, I'll kick off a second round of the "getting to know your fellow mods" phase with lists made up of our favorite songs. Zingaling and lovemerox will follow.
I'll start alphabetically, going from the numbers to Br-. Here's #1-10, with a lil' quote from the song.
1984 - David Bowie
They'll split your pretty cranium, and fill it full of air And tell that you're eighty, but brother, you won't care You'll be shooting up on anything, tomorrow's never there Beware the savage jaw...Of 1984
1999 - Prince
But life is just a party, and parties weren't meant to last War is all around us, my mind says prepare to fight So if I gotta die I'm gonna listen to my body tonight
A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall - Bob Dylan
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains, I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked highways, I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests, I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans, I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard, And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard, And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall
Always Coming Back Home to You - Atmosphere
All of a sudden I'm in front of some man No he's a youngin but he's got a gun in his hand He looks fifteen, he looks frantic, no he looks afraid Immediately apprehensive til I heard him say “Do you want this It's not mine I promise I found it on my block in between a couple garages Didn't wanna leave it for a child to stumble over I don't even know how to hold it."
Badge - Cream
Thinkin' 'bout the times you drove in my car Thinkin' that I might have drove you too far And I'm thinkin' 'bout the love that you laid on my table
Ball and Biscuit - The White Stripes
Let's have a ball and a biscuit sugar And take our sweet little time about it Let's have a ball girl And take our sweet little time about it Tell everybody in the place to just get out And we'll get clean together And I'll find me soapbox where I can shout it
Bang Bang - Nancy Sinatra
I was five and he was six We rode on horses made of sticks He wore black and I wore white He would always win the fight
Birdhouse in Your Soul - They Might Be Giants
Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch Who watches over you Make a little birdhouse in your soul Not to put too fine a point on it Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet Make a little birdhouse in your soul
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony, that's life Try to make ends meet, try to find some money then you die I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down You know the one that takes you to the places where all the things meet, yeah
Blaze - Strike Anywhere
We live in violence, after slumber. In a vanquish, shoveled over. Jaded shades to hope onto. You are many, they are few. Without a force to question. The hollow opressor to public deception. Through all this time we write... Human Solutions!

The only people I've heard of are Bob Dylan, Prince, and The White Stripes. I've never heard any of those songs.

But it's a catchy song that EVERYONE knows!
If you've seen Cruel Intentions, you've heard Bittersweet Symphony. If you've ever listened to an alternative station, you've heard Bittersweet Symphony...
I'm not a fan of the band, but the song rocks.
There's a sound clip here: http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/6596227/sort/rank?pageid=rs.RS500&pageregion=blob&rnd=1104694186674&has-player=true&version=6.0.12.857
Zingaling, you've never heard of They Might Be Giants? They did the theme song to "Malcolm in the Middle". Download Birdhouse in Your Soul here: http://www.paradise-engineering.com/quotation/birdhouseinyoursoul.mp3
Also, you've heard Bang Bang. It's the first song in Kill Bill Volume 1...

The reason why it made the band no money? They didn't get permission from The Rolling Stones to use part of one of their songs in it
hehe

Twas the Rolling Stones. Not Aerosmith.
At least it wasn't as obvious as Vanilla Ice using the bass from Bowie's "Under Pressure"

#11-20 - in a random order!
Get Off My Cloud - The Rolling Stones
I live in an apartment on the ninety-ninth floor of my block And I sit at home looking out the window Imagining the world has stopped Then in flies a guy who's all dressed up like a Union Jack And says, I've won five pounds if I have his kind of detergent pack
Hummingbird - Wilco
His goal in life was to be an echo The type of sound that floats around and then back down Like a feather But in the deep chrome canyons of the loudest Manhattans No one could hear him Or anything
Humpty Dumpty - Aimee Mann
Say you were split, you were split in fragments And none of the pieces would talk to you Wouldn't you want to be who you had been Well baby I want that too So better take the keys and drive forever Staying won't put these futures back together All the perfect drugs and superheros Wouldn't be enough to bring me up to zero
Mr. Brightside - The Killers
I just can’t look its killing me And taking control Jealousy, turning saints into the sea Swimming through sick lullabies Choking on your alibis But it’s just the price I pay Destiny is calling me Open up my eager eyes ‘Cause I’m Mr Brightside
Jungle Boogie - Kool and the Gang
Get down, Get down, Get down...
La Bomba - Azul Azul
Sensual un movimiento sensual sensual un movimiento muy sexi sexi un movimiento muy sexi y aqui se viene azul azul con este baile que es una bomba
Hands Down - Dashboard Confessional
Hands down this is the best day I can ever remember, I'll always remember the sound of the stereo, the dim of the soft lights, the scent of your hair that you twirled in your fingers and the time on the clock when we realized it's so late and this walk that we shared together. The streets were wet and the gate was locked so I jumped it, and let you in. And you stood at the door with your hands on my waist and you kissed me like you meant it
I'm An Errand Girl for Rhythm - Diana Krall
If you want to swing and shout Get your heels and get about I'm an errand girl for rhythm, send me Just get hip and follow through I'll deliver straight to you I'm an errand girl for rhythm, send me
Maxwell's Silver Hammer - The Beatles
Bang! Bang! Maxwell's silver hammer came down upon her head Clang! Clang! Maxwell's silver hammer made sure that she was dead
Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2
And it's true we are immune When fact is fiction and T.V. reality And today the millions cry We eat and drink while tomorrow they die The real battle just begun To claim the victory Jesus won On a Sunday bloody Sunday Sunday Bloody Sunday

:? I hardly know any of them. I feel so out of touch.
I love your first list, most of those songs are some of my favorites, especially Bittersweet Sympathy and 1999
Second list - only one I like is U2, and I haven't heard of the rest

You've never heard of Jungle Boogie, zach? Also, if you know oldies, you've probably heard Get Off My Cloud.

It'll ring a bell once you hear the first three seconds.

Certainly only a couple of those songs would be in my list (and a couple means like 2 or 3).

rusty...
although I LOVE Led Zeppelin, I wanted to make room for at least 70 artists...so you're only going to see 2-3 songs from the Stones, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, and Mr. Clapton
And if there's 2-3 songs that would be on your own list in only twenty songs, I'd say that's pretty good, considering all the songs availble to choose from...

#21-30 in a random order...
I Wanna Riot - Rancid
Cause I'm a kid who's got a lotta problems If I throw a brick maybe the brick will go and solve them
I'm Afraid of Americans - David Bowie
Johnny's in America Johnny looks up at the stars Johnny combs his hair And Johnny wants pussy in cars Johnny's in America
Imagine - John Lennon
Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace...
Heartbreaker - Led Zeppelin
It won't take long just watch and see how the fellas lay their money down. Her style is new but the face is the same as it was so long ago, But from her eyes, a different smile like that of one who knows. Well, it's been ten years and maybe more since I first set eyes on you. The best years of my life gone by, here I am alone and blue. Some people cry and some people die by the wicked ways of love; But I'll just keep on rollin' along with the grace of the Lord above.
Mambo Italiano - Rosemary Clooney
A girl went back to Napoli Because she missed the scenery The native dances and the charming songs But wait a minute, something's wrong...
My Iron Lung - Radiohead
We're too young to fall asleep To cynical to speak We are losing it Can't you tell? We scratch our eternal itch A twentieth century bitch And we are grateful for Our iron lung
Wednesday Morning, 3 a.m. - Simon and Garfunkel
I can hear the soft breathing of the girl that I love As she lies here beside me asleep with the night And her hair in a fine mist floats on my pillow Reflecting the glow of the winter moonlight She is soft, she is warm, but my heart remains heavy And I watch as her breasts gently rise, gently fall For I know with the first light of dawn I'll be leaving And tonight will be all I have left to recall
Darling Nikki - Prince
I knew a girl named Nikki I guess you could say she was a sex fiend I met her in a hotel lobby Masturbating with a magazine She said how’d u like to waste some time And I could not resist when I saw little Nikki grind
Criminal - Fiona Apple
I've been a bad, bad girl I've been careless with a delicate man And it's a sad sad world When a girl will break a boy Just because she can
Tragic Kingdom - No Doubt
The cold wind blows as it snows On those who fight to get in On heads that are small disillusioned as they enter They're unaware what's Behind castle walls But now it's written in stone The king has been overthrown By jesterly fools And the power of the people Shall come to believe they do rule
